Forums - Gaming - If it's on a Microsoft console AND the PC, it's an exclusive.

Eh. nah. As soon as it's on steam I can play it on my mac (yes, the magic of vitualization) it's reaaally not an xbox exclusive anymore.

I always thought this too and in fact that's how it is. The alternative is just what people say to convince themselves the the platform they dislike is worthless.

Plus the combo of console + high end PC is rare. I know 30+ gamers. The only one who has a console + gaming compere is ME. And I don't even game on it.

The number of gamers with a xbox + pc may be low but you definitely have and will have a number of Xbox gamers who've switched to PC.  There's very little reason to choose xbox over pc unlike Nintendo and Sony platforms.

What if its a steam game that cant be played on Mac but its only on Windows and Xbox?

Virtualiztion would allow it to be played on MAC as they would be virutalizing the MS Windows environment.

But that aside, if the game can be purchased through steam(GOG, phsyical copy, or otherwise) then it is not an exclusive, it is on two platforms.

It's not a true exclusive in the traditional sense but it is one. The closest term to describe it is console exclusive. It's less effective than true one, though. The point of an exclusive is incentivise people into buy one gaming platform over another. So it makes sense, that the more platforms that the game can be played, the less effective it is as an exclusive.

So people who say that "Why do I need an Xbox One when I can play it on the PC" are correct. Especially with most of the xbox one's new exclusives being console exclusives. People are having less reason to buy an xbox one and xbox one x. Just buy a pc with win 10 on it and you're good if you want to play those games. The PS4 doesn't have this problem since most of the it's exclusives are true exclusives. If you want to play those games, you can only play them on one platform.

Lastly, the point "If a title is released on both the Xbox One and the PC, then it's exclusive to Microsoft. So Microsoft reaps the benefit whether the title is bought on the One or a Window based PC." is really just silly.

Who gives a shit about that unless they are a MS employee or someone who has stock in the company. It doesn't matter in the way some people want it to in a debate about the xbox one not having much incentive for people to buy it.. "So microsoft reaps the benefit whether the title is bought on the one or a win 10 pc....." is really just a consolation prize type of comment.

This is nonsense. I'm hoping it's meant to be satire.

To further elaborate on the bolded portion.

Microsoft does not get a dime for any game sold on the PC unless it is sold through the Win10 Store or from a micorosft owned subsidiary. Games on the PC do not operate the way they do on the a console. There are no royalties required to publish a game on the PC. When a vendor chooses to sell a game through Steam, GOG, or other they pay royalties to that distributor, not to Microsoft, and they only do it so that it reaches a wider market . Microsoft get's nothing from games sold on any non-Win10 store distribution so they do not reap any rewards.

Maybe a MS exclusive. Microsoft already came and said they view all windows 10 gaming computers as xboxes.

Sorry Living I don't mean to be a dick about this but if a game is on X and Y then it isn't exclusive to either of those things, there is no debating it, it's on 2 platforms.

It's why I enjoyed the Sony conference is because the word exclusive didn't even need to be said at it, when you see a Sony first party game you know that is only on the PS4, you know that you got another reason for owning the system you bought as well as all of the third party games which appeared on the MS show basically.

Wasn't sure if this was meant as satire though because like I said, if you have a game on 2 platforms then the game isn't exclusive to either of those.
