Yeah, I can see why some wouldn't like the fharacter designs even though I'm fine with them (at least they're expressive :P). But the fields look excellent. And you can see the XCX foundations technically, but they've upgraded the lighting engine and implemented a more modern grass solution that is mesh based rather than billboard based. They are pulling some odd tricks with shadows for small creatures and items though, making it so they don't cast hard on grass while large creature, object, and landscape shadows do. And I think he intentionally called it Xenoblade because he wants the franchise to shake free of that obligation. I think Takahashi wants this to be his Final Fantasy, a franchise he can explore creative ideas with. I wonder if the X series will continue separately though. |
I hope so,
I really enjoyed the macro story of X and the universe it takes place in. It is obvious that Takahashi was shaping it along the lines of what he was planning with Xenogears and Xenosaga. Closer to Xenogears since that series had aliens, and Xenosaga didn't. The Nopon are kind of like replacements for the Chuchus.
Assuming the story continues, the question I would have is if Mira & New LA = New Jerusalem, or if the planet is a reimagining of the one the Eldridge crashed into; it's a good start with all of the Mims creating a civilization prior to the expansion of biological humans created by Kadamony. The game did end in a cliffhanger with the implication the story would continue, it seems unlikely that Takahashi wouldn't throw the old fans a bone and give them the Zohar as the hidden power source.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
