You were watching the begnning of the game. Go and replay Xenoblade 1 and X again and you will notice that before you get all your skills combat is alawys slower.

Yeah, not really hyped for this game.

If you watched the treehouse they mentioned that they are using the same engine as X, so building the world was super quick. So the game should look at worst the same as X.
