Xbox One X exclusives that are also releasing on PS4

You'd be forgiven for thinking that there were a ton of Xbox One X exclusives at the Microsoft conference, but here's the clarification of those that are PS4 games too.

A point of contention from Microsoft’s reveal of its latest console, Xbox One X, last Sunday was its overuse of the term ‘console launch exclusive’ before the reveal of several new video games. As a result, you’d be forgiven for thinking that these games aren’t coming to PS4 at any point when in fact they are.

Simply put, the games listed below will mostly launch first on Xbox One X but will also see a PS4 release at an as-of-yet unknown time – it may be a week, or like Rise of the Tomb Raider, somewhat longer.

At least with Sony you get ‘First on PlayStation’ which is a relatively straightforward tagline that aptly relays the fact that the preceding game wasn’t exclusive to PS4 but rather just timed, with an eye for an eventual release on the likes of Xbox One X and perhaps PC.

Issues aside, here’s the list of games that you’ll also see release on PS4.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

The runaway PC Battle Royale-esque hit was singled out for special praise at Microsoft’s E3 conference and even had PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, take to the stage to divulge details of an Xbox One X version of the Early Access game that’s already shipped a mammoth 3 million copies on PC. Thankfully for PS4 owners, however, it’s been confirmed as far back as April that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will see a PS4 release sometime after its initial launch on Xbox One X.

Metro Exodus

erhaps the tied with BioWare’s Anthem for most impressive game at Microsoft’s E3 conference, 4A Games’ Metro Exodus looks positively stunning, continuing the fine work done by the Ukraine-based developers and though there's been a little bit of confusion it looks as if Metro Exodus will release on Xbox One X and PS4 at the exact same time.

Anthem

BioWare’s aforementioned Anthem, the gorgeous-looking sci-fi adventure by the folks over in Edmonton, is a little bit of a different situation to some of the other games mentioned insofar as Microsoft has the marketing rights to the game, much like Sony does with say, Destiny 2. That does mean, however, that we’ll likely see a simultaneous 2018 release of Anthem on both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, albeit with the latter having some additional content.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

If you were to ask a diehard Dragon Ball Z fan which developer they’d like to work on a one-on-one fighting game within the Dragon Ball universe you’d likely hear the answer ‘Arc System Works’. The purveyors of near-perfect 2D fighting games, the Yokohama-based developer is tailor-made to make an incredible Dragon Ball Z brawler and thankfully for us it’s already been confirmed for release on PS4 despite its showing at Microsoft’s E3 conference last night.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm

The three-part prequel to Dontnod Entertainment’s Life is Strange made an appearance at the Xbox One X reveal following its leak last week and thankfully for us we’ll see a simultaneous release on PS4 on August 31. Bear in mind, too, that an actual sequel is in production though it’s unclear whether it’s a direct sequel or a continuation of the world with entirely new characters.

Assassin’s Creed Origins

As if there was any doubt, Ubisoft’s latest in the Assassin’s Creed series will see a release on PS4 on October 27, nearly two weeks before its launch on Xbox One X. One of the worst-kept secrets in gaming, Assassin’s Creed Origins takes place in Egypt where players will uncover the secrets of the pyramids and lay witness to the origins of the Assassin’s Brotherhood.

Other titles:

- Conan Exiles

- Black Desert Online

- Code Vein

- Shadow of War

Rest assured, while some of the games above will release a little later on PS4, others will be day-and-date with their Xbox One X counterparts so don’t fret, you’ll still be playing the latest and greatest on PS4 for some time yet.

Stay tuned to PSU all through the week for all your E3-related news, trailers, and announcements.

Why does the writer talk about third party games? And they are launch xbox one exclusives because they are also playable on the xbox one/s not only xbox one x.

Why does it say that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is "Battle Royale-esque"? It's literally a Battle Royale.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I thought it would have been obvious that launch exclusive meant timed-exclusive. But yeah, I have no idea why they came up with a new term for it.

There was more than a little confusion over this rewording of 'timed exclusive.' MS apparently caught enough flack over Tomb Raider they don't want to use that term anymore.

The word "exclusive" is starting to garner new meanings it seems.

For the same reason the announcer said "EXCLUSIVE" instead of  "LAUNCH EXCLUSIVE". Confuse, and confound.

The majority of those were obvious multi-plats from the beginning.  Stuff like player unknown was obvious to anyone that knows it is in early access.

It's a funny tactic, confuse people and make them not know which games are exclusives and which aren't.

I'd have to re-watch the conference but were any of those games actually called exclusive?

I know some were called "launch exclusive", but were the multi-plats called exclusive?

Any time they showed a "launch exclusive" or an actual exclusive they had a 2 second screen that showed it was one or the other and had an announcer say "exclusive."

Also at the top of the conference Spencer said they were showing off 22 exclusives, which includes their new "launch exclusive" phrase.

Most of the games on that list were not called exclusive.  A few were called launch exclusives.

Yeah.... I don't think we needed clarification that Metro Exodus, Anthem, Dragon Ball Fighter Z (Announced Before E3), Life is Strange 2, Shadow of War (Announced before E3) AC Origins and Code Veins aren't exclusive and they were never implied as exclusive.

The others however yes, they had a "Console Launch Exclusive" tag which is easy to understand.

Nah it almost sounds confusing. At least it would be confusing to someone who isn't a gamer. They could have just said "timed" exclusive to kill any and all doubt so that nothing is misconstrued.
