Is microsoft fighting back?

Their trying their best 50 22.52%

As long as it doesnt co$t them, sure. 51 22.97%

They gave up 121 54.50%

Total:222

They're just trying to make money now. Profit is the goal, I don't think they're trying anymore, they've given up being leaders.

I think MS should invest in more 1st party studios.
So by the time Playstation 5 & Xbox Two, launch they will have the studios to keep output of 1st party AAA games up.

Instead they have been closeing studios.
The problem is these things take time, to show any results..... if their too slow to react this issue could effect them next gen too.

Calling it now. Third parties are gonna make games on PS4Pro then Port to PS4, Xbox one and XbX

There will not be enough XboneX (I'm just trying different things) to warrent building a game from the ground up for it if you're a third party.

Goodness me, another Microsoft bashing thread. They have their weak points but they put a really good press conference. Why are you guys always concern trolling when you don't really care about their products. Heck i am not interested in buying an Xbone S or X but i can appreciate them trying to some degree.

I had a xbox 360 and now I have a PS4. I'm concerned because the 360 forced Sony to learn and improve. I was hoping the PS4 would do the same for MS. I don't want MS to fall so far behind that they leave the industry. We've Sony what Sony does when they are unchallenged and it's not good.

3 main exclusives for this year.

Crackdown - Looks downgraded to an indie or AA title.

Sea of thieves - doesn't look AAA

Yet another Forza - annual franchise

There is no doubt that this is the worst year ever for Xbox. Now is it over?  Have MS given up?

I think this gen yes and they've just decided as evidenced by the super high scorpio price to stop hemorrhaging money this gen.

They might make a final stand with the launch of next gen in a few years. One last effort of a comeback. So maybe they're holding all the big investments until then.

Sea of Thieves is now 2018.

Welp.  Not that it will sell consoles in 2018 but still..

Microsoft has the resources to do what they want. It wouldn't surprise me if they're simply giving up for now so that they can make another attack in the future. That's what they did with the original Xbox. We also know that you can't predict a generation based only on the preceding generation.

It's also still somewhat surprising how well the Xbox brand is regarded in North America. At work, all I hear about is Xbox. The people who mainly play games like FIFA, Madden, and CoD like it just as much now as they did last gen.

Relative to Spencer himself, I don't think he's behind much of the downscaling we're witnessing now. I think that's coming from above his pay-grade.

This back and forth effort is what killed Windows Phone and what is hampering Xbox. They could have a much larger market share if they'd learn to commit.

Microsoft uses aggressive business tactics.  They dictate what they want and then attempt to force the market to follow through brute strength.  They can do this with Windows because their monopoly is untouchable.  They've made so many anti-consumer decisions with Windows 10 but they can get away with it.  In other areas, they try it and get punched in the face, as with gaming and music.  It's still a gamble that can pay off big, though, so they still use that strategy.  Imagine if the original Xbox One actually succeeded.

With gaming, specifically, Microsoft leadership only considers it a means to an end.  We saw that clearly at the original XO reveal.  The "we love gamers" stuff since has been Emergency PR.  That's why, personally, I will never trust them--that, and GFLW was one of the worst pieces of garbage to ever hit gaming.

Still, money can win lots of battles.  What I think we'll see next (though not for awhile) is that Microsoft has been out buying future exclusive content rather than investing in first party studios.  It's much more cost efficient.

Do you have a higher res version of this image like the second one?

Its from neogaf, not mine so no.

You can hit the link above, and press Ctrl+"+" to increase the size by zooming in on it though.

Why am I asking this? well in another thread someone wrote "I like where xbox looks to be heading"... and I couldnt help but think of all the bad "rate xbox e3" scores in the thread about it, plus we got a "Im starting to give up on phil.." thread.

Theres a thread like that on neogaf called "I thought the Xbox show was fine, despite things missing. I'm a little worried though".

In that thread, theres a few pictures that are being massively qouted.

They are these:

It looks like Microsoft is "stepping" down in terms of software output.

With the games cancelled (such as scalebound) and them closeing down the studio that does Fable, along with priceing the Xbox One X at 499$... and software output going down each new E3......

Does Microsoft still have any fight left in them?

Thats what I wanted to ask.

Dayyum at those 2 pics, look at how one is regressing year over year, while the other goes "this isn't even my final form yet", that's some DBZ type shit bruhh.

MS new strategy is to lure people in with the "most powafuru consul of all time" angle instead of creativity (ie exclusive games). Games are risky and cost too much to make. MS is all about the biggest surefire hits now. Their biggest games will keep coming but forget new AAA IPs from them, unless it's a online service game like Sea of Thieves. Thats another thing that was clear from yesterday. Esports and multiplayer games are the next big thing. Higher ups at MS likely put the division on a budget so they have to be careful how they spend their resources. They're even making timed exclusives out of indies now.

Yeah I was really surprised by the downgrade of Crackdown 3. Think MS has gotten enough from the development and is just putting it out there to close that chapter.

Even Agents of Mayhem looks better.

Microsoft as a whole? I don't think they'll give up anytime soon, not as long as Windows is as big for gaming as it is today. The future of Xbox might be uncertain though but it's still a powerful brand so it wouldn't make any sense to just put it under the axe. Even if MS stops making their own consoles they'd probably keep the Xbox brand.

Of course the PS4 will be the base platform. And they'll scale up from there. No different than how third parties treat PC and have for generations. No one is building games from the ground up for the PS4 Pro either. These are mid gen refresh machines, not new gens.
