Forums - Gaming - We need another console platform to challenge Sony

One that is willing to challenge Sony in games innovation and tech, one that puts equal investment in their 1st party output, one that puts equal importance to east and west and has global appeal. I think the industry can support both such companies. Just like the previous gen when most people had both a PS3 and 360, plus a Wii often.

Today we have 3 different console mentalities, Sony goes the traditional route, Nintendo has their own handheld market, the weakest of them all tries to be disruptive by bringing Windows in the living room and trying to do away with generations.

Xbox today is in a bad position and MS have cornered themselves to basically 2 markets, where they are chasing Sony. Xbox has gradually weakened, it misses vigor and vitality of the past. After what they've shown last night, it is in no position to threaten Sony. They made mistakes at the start of the gen and have not been able to recover since, despite their claims, they haven't upped 1st party support.

We need another console rivalry again, for the sake of the consumer and creativity in gaming. No one wants Sony to become complacent with such weak competition.

I wish Amazon, Apple, Samsung or Google took out a few billion from their massive war chests, hired people like J Allard and made a console.

Isn't the console market in decline?

Pocky Lover Boy!

Nintendo with the Switch?Thats basically what you described, minus a power perspective.

And dont come with the " Switch is a handheld" argument. We all know its a hybrid.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Microsoft stole halo from them. If apple joins the console race they will go for market share but mostly to topple Microsoft. I think Microsoft ruined the chances of that dream coming true.

While Samsung buys Playstation or Sony as a whole and it will be another battle between those giants.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Probably MS's last Xbox to be honest.
Apple would sell it at an astronomical price.

Yea, because Xbox and Nintendo were in decline. Xbone S hasn't done much to turn the tide, even in America according to NPD the PS4 has only widened the gap, a $499 console with weak 1st party output isn't gonna challenge Sony. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1381479

Switch seems like it's gonna be a success relatively, at least getting the 3DS install base.

Now that would reinvigorate the console market. Apple entering a market causes a ripple effect, it would bring in competitors of its own, especially Chinese brands.  Who knows tho, after wearables and cars, they might discover they lack a product under TVs.

U mean the Apple TV

Apple TV is a nonfactor and it's sales are tiny.
