According to IDC, 2.3M VR headsets have shipped in Q1 2017 alone with Samsung Gear shifting 489,500 and PSVR shipping 429,000.
Personally I knew VR would do well but these figures outdo my most optimistic estimations.

there definitely is a market for VR, although it's still in it's infancy
if user creations in MMs Dreams can be played in VR without much problem (maybe some restrictions on lvl size etc), that would mean endless amount of trippy content and if LBP is any indication there will be lots of great mini-games etc - with Dreams the community could even create short-movies etc for VR
but for now I'll keep my expectations in check, it's VR support might be limited to sculpturing etc after all
that is surprisingly really good for PSVR
should have a good holiday if they slash it by $50 and have a couple of good games
Great numbers for psvr considering a bundle is more than 150% of the price of the pro, which you probably want with it at some point. That should be the total comfortably past a million as it was 915k in Februari.
222k people played RE7 in VR by now, 10% of the total player count, over 22% of PSVR owners. (compared to about 4% of PS4 owners)
1 million might not seem that much yet but you do have the players that spent most on games. I'm excited to see what will be announced at E3. Currently having a lot of fun with Bridge crew an still want to continue with the excellent Farpoint with the aim controller.
Edit: My math is off, that 2.2 million total players figure includes PC and XBox One. So it's less than 2% of the ps4 install base that bought the game, compared to over 22% of PSVR owners. Or over 20% of people playing it on ps4, played it in VR. Ofcourse you had to agree to stat collection to add to these numbers so the real figures could still be higher. Yet as a comparison you could say that adding a well implemented VR mode can already increase your sales by over 20% on ps4. The new VR userbase with plenty disposable income is hungry for more full games in VR!

It depends if you have unrealistic expectations really. 430k for PSVR in three slowish months for a $400 headset is amazing. It shows that VR headsets are continuing to sell after they launched last year.
It's also great for us gamers because the bigger the install base gets, the more money developers and publishers will be willing to spend on VR and VR content. This then should lead to more VR headset sales and VR snowball should just keep getting bigger and bigger with the momentum.

Vive and oculos now lagging far behind. Sony got the price right with psvr. Hopefully a price cut this year.

This is only one aspect of the whole picture. Many fail to understand that PS and GearVR arent the sole carrieres and the private sector aint the lonely force to fuel this new tech. I expect this attitude to be the norm until it becames apperant to the oblivious.
To say now VR has failed is like caliming smartphones have failed because the iPhone only sold 3+ mio. in 2007 - compared to the 200+ mio. Apple sells recently.
