Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo battles Apple for parts as Switch demand rises

I'm surprised no one has posted this yet. It does dive in a little on what Nintendo is dealing with behind the scenes lately in terms of manufacturing Switch units.

Simply put, there is a worldwide issue with getting parts for digital devices and it looks like it'll be that way for the rest of the year. Nintendo is caught up with it due to having to battle for assembly lines to get the parts needed to continue production on Switch, which as we know continues to have high demand.

Nintendo Prime made a recent discussion video in regards to the issue: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ruew4buBbE

So what do you guys think?

Hmm, on a serious note on what I think, I feel bad for the poor exploited workers who are put in the middle of competition like this.

...But, on a more site-appropriate note, I guess I should be angry at Apple for not being able to find a Switch

So this might mean the switch may never not have a shortage. At least not for awhile.
Nintendo is obviously still holding supply back to increase demand.

The conspiracy continues.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

Bbbbut da Nintendo is purposely keeping stock low!

That is insane that production line has battle like that. I would have imagined many contracts would be up for grabs.

Yea and in the end it's all about who's willing to give more money to get priority. Nintendo, even as a billion dollar company, cannot compete with Apple with the money they have and the money they maybe willing to spend.

"Nintendo has told suppliers and assemblers it hopes to make nearly 20 million units of the Switch device in the year ending in March 2018"

Interesting that the number keeps going up. They initially said 16 million, then 18 million just a few days ago. I wonder what number they'll be able to hit.

I think that'll be interesting to think about as the year goes by. Where will the production number hit and can it make it to said number on time? I mean we already noticed that the new Splatoon 2 and MHXX Switch bundles immediately sold out upon starting preorders in Japan.

Even the most optmistic sales forcast would represent less than 2% of WW smartphone and tablet sales.

It is also weird that we all know the Switch doesn´t have any bleading edge component or custom chip. So, why would they need to fight with Apple that builds their own chips?

This seems to be another PR stunt for Nintendo trying to keep the focus on the device, since, it preaty clear there is no rush or fever in the general public for the console.
