Forums - Gaming - The lowest possible PC settings vs what Nin. Switch has: Overwatch discussion

There's no dancing around it: Some kind of version of Overwatch could run on the Switch - even in portable mode.

I think the bigger problem is that we still don't know how the online features of Switch are meant to work. I betcha many big developers don't even know either.

You can't bring a big online game like Overwatch when there's so little information on how the online community is supposed to work.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

If Overwatch on Switch can be pulled off, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. Not many 3rd party games interest me but this one does.

Those are PC specs, they don't translate to consoles. Since it is a port the developer can make the requirements as low as he wants. If Splatoon can run on Switch, so can Overwatch. It's not about specs, it's about commitment of the developer and publisher.

That said, extremely low specs as the Switch has makes commitment a lot harder.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

But that offline single player mode is like 3 hours at most in length if we look at the first game. That really doesn't justify having it on the Switch and not Overwatch. If even the 3DS can have an MMO like Dragon Quest X on it, (which the Switch is also getting) it can get an online shooter.

That still doesn't address the fact that Overwatch requires an Internet connection AT ALL TIMES.  Even the single player mode of Overwatch requires an always on Internet connection.  Splatoon 2 and Dragon Quest X do not.  DQX even requires you play it offline to start the game.

So...just have the game only playable when their is an online connection.

The Switch is a home console too. It is possible to just play a game when you have a strong, reliable connection. We already have games that can't be played in either console, portable, and even table top modes. Overwatch will just need to be a game that's really only meant to be played at home. Heck, maybe even only in console mode, so the game can have the extra horsepower at all times.

I get it if the gam wouldn't run well on Switch hardware, but the system is fully capable of running an online-only game. Though, honestly, if they CAN get the game running in handheld mode, there's no reason they couldn't add an offline LAN option.

Such as?

12 Switch and Voez.

There is a reason why both the back of Switch game boxes and the eShop have spots dedicated to supported play modes, because Switch has features that don't work well in certain modes. Any game that REQUIRES joycon motion control can't work in portable mode. Any game that REQUIRES the touchscreen can't work in console or table top mode.

So it'd make sense that there can be games that require console mode's increased horsepower or guaranteed online connection. (although, again, there's no reason why a game that can operate in handheld mode can't have the online requirement as well, given wifi and mobile hot spots, and the potential for off-tv home play)

"Switch is weaker than PS4 XBoX 1 (how much is really debatable though), but the Switch is stronger than the absolute minimum Overwatch PC specs."

What do you mean by "debatable"? It is not... Like really not debatable.

I love my Switch and by all mean this device is amazing.
I mean that does not change that Zelda is looking very good and shows that you can actually design great games no matter the power.
But overrall, the Switch has a Tegra X1, nothing more... That's not debatable really :)

For Overwatch, yes it would be playable I believe on it and enjoyable enough even at low settings.
I'm expecting it to actually appear on the Switch at some point to be honest.

I think you misread what was typed.  KrspaceT wasn't saying it's debatable that the Switch is weaker.  He was saying that the degree to which it is weaker is debatable.  Mostly because it's pretty hard to gauge that kind of thing, especially when the system is new and Nintendo as usual doesn't share specs.

That is what I meant

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Makes sense.
At the end, the Switch is powerfull enough to bring amazing games and Nintendo proved it with a day 1 title (Zelda) so I expect greatness from it :)
As well as expect Overwatch on it soon!
