Forums - Gaming - Is Phil Spencer really this naive or is this slick acting?

http://wccftech.com/xbox-phil-spencer-console-war/

He claims to be inpartial, basically. That console wars are stupid, basically. I really have a hard time believing the article above. It's simple. If your console "peice of plastic" doesn't sell well then that console dies and no more games come to it. He knows this! Wii U is a recent example. He has to know with PS4, and Switch now, decimating Xbox 1 weekly. Can we really believe that he doesn't secretly hope that Scorpio slaughters the other 2 systems?

He acts like a nice guy that just plays games and wants all companies and gamers to just pick whatever system they like... which mostly isn't his system that he is in charge of. If he really does think this way, then why hasn't MS replaced him with his non competitive attitude? I'm all for nice guys and getting along, but there is a console war and tough and aggressive decisions must be made.

What do you guys think?

If it's so stupid to him, he should put a muzzle on Aaron Greenberg who helps fuel the console war.

Right.

First, the tweet he was responding to was really stupid.

Second, because you are in competition with someone doesn't mean you have to behave childishly. He's an adult. It would look far, far worse if he acted like a petty fanboy.

I have no idea why anyone would expect him to respond otherwise.

So, what is he supposed to say?

Of course he thinks consoles wars are stupid when he is the one who finds himself on the bottom of it. Fueling it would only make it worse for him, and he knows that.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

VGchartz on generally cares way more about the console wars than MS, Sony or Nintendo. This is a site about videogamesales so obviously we care who sells the most. MS, Sony and Nintendo on the other hand are more focused om maximizing profit and revenue than some made up war between those companies.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Maybe he IS just a nice guy?

niceguygameplayer, surely you of all people would just take the man at face value?

I may not agree with the directionless state the Xbox division is in right now, but Phil is absolutely right to call out this console war for what it really is - a child's argument.

There's no way he's that naive. He wasn't playing the nice guy role under the previous regime but he's fitted right into his new role for MS playing the good guy to get back some gamer good will.

It was the only option MS had left as they burnt too many bridges taking the arrogant approach.

As a person I'm sure he is alright but his online Persona is all PR so I wouldn't judge him on it personally. It's his job after all.

Yes, it's entirely a show. Right now, these guys are under the assumption that PR fighting is going to hurt sales for some reason. It's the era we're in, unfortunately. Those of us who remember the glory days of the 16-bit wars know how much more fun and exciting it is when the big dogs go toe to toe with a vengeance. Today's industry is so much more boring in that regard.
