@OP: I'm not sure you ever tasted a proper tomato if you think they are terrible...they are sweet and delicious.

Yes I want to taste the meat, but not only the meat.  That's like asking why I put bread on both sides of the burger.  Tomato, Bacon, barbeque sauce or ketchup, and onion rings.  Oh and french fries.  Hell I'm from Pittsburgh where we'll make primantis sandwiches with coleslaw and fried eggs on them (which are awesome).

I love tomatoes and products made from them. To each their own.

Tomatoes are excellent, whether alone, in a salad, or used in cooking :o

I always hate it when a slice of tomato is served on my plate at restaurants.
