Right, and saying that people can't picket in front of the things they are protesting is also "a compromise". In case you didn't get a chance to read my edit...

Trying to make sure that protesters can't protest in front of the things that they are protesting is a clear free speech violation. It's nothing more than an effort to make sure that the target audience doesn't hear the message of the protesters. I should be able to post directly in that thread, just the same as a picketer should be able to picket within the vicinity of the thing they are picketing.

Well, you can go post in the thread if you want, but we'll see how it turns out

The blackshirts would come in and delete my post, or issue me with a ban.

Well, do you want to make a stand against mod corruption? If you value your principles above all else, that's one way showing your dedication to the anti-piracy cause!

I can understand that, because a lot of women getting abortions are harassed for doing it and making them uncomfortable.

I'm all for abortion, but that's a diliberate attempt to silence critics.

We could use another example if we wanted. Hey Trump supporters, you aren't allowed to hold rallies in D.C. anymore. We've created this special area twenty miles outside of D.C. just for you to hold rallies. Hey Atheists, you aren't allowed to picket in front of a ten commandments monument. We've created this special area seven miles away from any courthouse, monument, or government building for you to do that!

The difference is those are public spaces and this is a private website run by private entities and you are subject to the Terms of Use when posting here.

Emulation is piracy and piracy is fine*

I seriously considered leaving the site over this. But despite it's flaws this is still the best place to talk bout video games on the internet. There's not so many people that threads are a thousand pages long before you get a chance to read them. Most of the userbase are fans of Nintendo and Sony. One thing I am doing is withdrawing my supporter status and going back to using adblock. If I knew of a relatively active forum where people weren't allowed to discuss emulation of games that are still on store shelves I'd go there. But none exist.

Then maybe you need to look inward. And many of the regular users here are already using adblock, myself included. And with the "most of the userbase are fans of Nintendo and Sony", it leads me to believe that your real problem is with PC gaming itself, not just emulation.

I just value conversation about good games. People that only play big name multiplats aren't worth talking to, because that's half the industry being ignored. Yes, I'd avoid a forum where the majority are PC-Only gamers, but I'd also avoid a forum where the majority are XB1-Only, Nintendo-Only, or Sony-Only gamers. I seriously considered going over to Nintendolife, but I don't want to talk in a vacuum where the majority of users only play on Nintendo systems. Same for any Sony based boards.

Yeah, and people value good conversation about emulation, which can't happen when you try to derail the thread every time.

And they've been given their little vacuum now. Any conversation about emulation without mentioning piracy is just as one sided, and devoid of interesting discussion as a bunch of hardcore Nintendo fans agreeing with each other on the Nintendolife forums. If other threads worked the way that thread works, then we wouldn't be able to criticize any game that is the topic of the thread. Oh? You didn't like Starfox Zero? Well, you aren't allowed to "derail" the Official Starfox Zero Metacritic thread, by posting why you think the game is bad, and arguing with other people about it!

Well, you seem to be having a fun time on this thread, so I'd say it's not as gloomy as you make it out to be.
