Forums - Politics - Republicans Vote To Keep Health Care Benefits For Themselves, But To Cut Them For Americans

Both parties are garbage.

Dems are corporate shills and take money from the same people that republicans take money from, but at least dems throw you a bone everyone once in a while. Hey, I am for gay marriage, aren't I so progressive?

But to be fair, the American system allows all Americans to be politicians and congress men, so whatever happens to Americans, it happens because they allow it to happen, that is a blessing, not a curse.

A change is still possible and can happen, if young Americans start taking actions and engage in politics for real and leave their keyboards behind. Complaining and fighting over imaginary differences won't solve anything.

So, true.  The last president that actually cared for the common man was LBJ but he wasn't perfect either since he escalated the war in Vietnam.

So the takeaway is Americans are selfish bastards and their congressman are even more selfish bastards. We all knew that for ages what's the news here?

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

@Lawlight and @ Mr Puggsly

No congress isn't only Republican. HOWEVER, Republicans are the ONLY ones pushing this ridiculous bill, Just like the first time they tried with no Democrats on board, that's the same way they're pushing this one.

To him, everything bad is from liberals. You'll probably never make him admit he's wrong

So Obamacare is a good thing now?

The Affordable Care Act was never a bad thing. It wasn't the best, But it isn't bad either. It didn't become "bad" until it became a republican talking point to make it sound bad. And to be fair, many of the aspects of the ACA were originally devised by Mitt Romney, a republican. The republicans only hated it because a democrat was the one that got it through.

And most of the people that think it's bad were/are too stupid to realize that the ACA is what gave them healthcare in the first place, many of them for the first time ever. And now "Obamacare" is more popular than ever because those very people are starting to realize THEY will be the ones to lose healtcare if Trump and the Repulicans have their way.

It's as if people don't even remember how bad it was before the Affordable Care Act existed.

I'm all for more affordable healthcare options. The options that cover pre existing conditions could be more expensive and should be. That's better than people choosing to not have healthcare because its too expensive (that was Obamacare). That allowed people to buy into healthcare when they actually do get sick which is unfair for those of that pay in.

On a side note, I want people who abuse their bodies to pay more for healthcare. I eat well, do some exercise, don't smoke, don't drink, I should pay less.

Congress isn't just republicans btw.

I want the US, the richest, most advance, most powerful nation the planet earth has ever seen... to provide health care to all it's people without exception. If a country as small as Australia can do it, there's no fucking excuse for us. We are run by greedy, soulless businessmen who's only goal is to increase said wealth.

It's just a fucking disgrace and we're the laughing stock of the free world.

I agree work needs to be done to make healthcare accessible to everyone. I just don't want to pay a lot so others can get it free.

I also don't want to pay the same amount as a person abusing their body, people making poor lifestyle choices tend to be a bigger burden and should pay more.

Quite frankly, I'm sure plenty in the free world feel the same and why countries opt for hybrid instead.

I get the idea of Obamacare, but it failed at its primary goal of making healthcare more affordable. Forcing people to pay big fees to get nothing while others get it free is a mess.

Many more have insurance now because they're essentially forced or getting it free. I could probably be okay with that if it was actually more affordable.

A lot of people weren't buying healthcare pre-Obamacare, but forcing people to pay in when its more expensive isn't helping people either.

You can attack republicans but they didn't create Obamacare and its a disaster. If any numbers need to be adjusted its probably few should get free halthcare.

But they did Romenycare=Obamacare both are Republican Healthcare plans and where aproved by conservatives (The Heritage Foundation).

If Republicans supported Obamacare is incredibly odd they haven't really supported it.

Furthermore, in practice dems admit Obamacare is broken. Worst of all they passed it knowing it was very broken.

Of course its broken like I said before Obamacare is pretty much Romenycare a shitty conservative republican plan that is pretty much only good for the health insurance industy.  When he first was campaining in 2008 he was talking about getting a universal health care plan like most of the rest of the first world but he wimped out and instead got us a rebadged version of Romenycare.

Seems they are finally coming out of their mansion sized closet of hypocrisy. Deary me...

Hell will freeze all over three times before Americans rediscover politics. It is the same curse that plagues the Greeks: He who gives birth to politics and democracy is doomed to eternally disdain both. Get ready for an eternity of iterations of the same dish (Democrats-Republicans) pretending that the different seasoning really does make a difference

A great quote. Keeping it, thanks.

PS Congress doesn't have Obamacare coverage either. Never did. The reason O'Care is failing is because millions get it free. 10's of millions get it way below the cost it should be to cover themselves. And the rest of the people have to cover the real costs of all those people, so they pay more than the value they get back for it. Of course people who are higher risk/cost should pay more than less risky people, that is how insurance works. Reckless drivers pay more than Grandmas do for car Ins because they cost more to the insurance Co. People who live in Hurricane/Tornado zones pay more for home Ins because the risk is higher they will need to use Ins. And fat smoking alcoholics are going to need medical care before a vegan jogger. We need to stop forcing people to pay for other losers who, since they get it free[Medicaid], have no skin in the game and live a risky lifestyle.
