Forums - Sales - Pokemon Diamond / Pearl

I think it will eventually hit around the Gold/Silver mark but never touch Blue/Red. Maybe if the Pokemon Revolution online stuff is popular on the Wii it'll push sales but i still don't think it'll catch up to the originals.

I'm with the concensus. 15M+, but

@ Delusional

Its kind of a neat RPG. You start with one Pokemon on your team and throughout the game you can catch any amount you wish. Your team can consist of up to 6 pokemon. They can be different or the same ones or whatever you want, however they all have different types. ex. Fire, Grass, Steel, Pyschic and so on (I think there is somewhere around 20 different types now). Each pokemon can learn a maximum or 4 different moves. different moves also have different types just like pokemon. The story in the games is usually pretty weak but during the story they give you get a good idea of a lot of the different kinds of pokemon and what types work well (or not so well) against other types (such as water is good against fire and electric is good against water and some not so obvious ones). The best part of the game in my opinion is after your finished it. You can build your perfect team of 6 and they have to be diverse enough to handle another trainer with his own team of 6. In the old ones it was kinda lame as you had to actually go link your cable up to someone elses gameboy and you looked like an idiot, but with the new ones you can do it online so you dont feel like a child. Its a really challanging game with a lot of depth in the customization of team possiblities. There is just under 500 pokemon total now with all the games combined that you can use to create your team so possiblities are almost endless. as well as the hundreds and hundreds of different moves. anyway thats just me quick little explaination of the pokemon games. i hope i was a little helpful.

IMO, the most important thing is the collecting. There are very much pokemon and a lot are very difficult to get. some you have to level up because they'll become another pokemon after they reach a certain level, on others you have to use an item. then there are some which you can only get in one version (which is annoying i think) and then there are some which you can only get at the beginning and you can only get one out of three. this is just damn addictive and made me play Red/Blue and Gold/Silver for around 150 hours each.

i cant w8 till it come sout in Europe! why is it taking so long!! i wanna play online pokemon! :P Wouldnt it be ace if they made a Pokemon MMORPG on the wii?

It will clearly reach R/S levels, but I don't think it can reach G/S levels. Even if it did 7 million in each region, it would come up short. Still... The fact that every single main series Pokemon title can climb straight up the all-time best-sellers list a decade after the series began... Its pretty amazing...

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

@nintendo_fanboy Thanks for adding that bit about collecting. i completely left it out of my description and your right it is an integral part of the game aswell. I am completely addictive to the Global Trading System of the new one right now trying to collect everyone. Right now im up to 240 different pokemon so i think i just hit the halfway point. im about 80 hours in right now and its only going to get slower as i the guys i have to get are getting rarer and rarer so i can easily see myself logging in 200 hours to "catch 'em all". Anyway there is so much replay value in this game its almost like a MMORPG in the sense that your never really finished it.

a little more info on the game... there are 17 basic types, Water, Fire, Flying, Ghost, etc... Each pokemon can have 1 or 2 types, Such as Flying/Ghost. So, you end up with a crap load of varieties. Each type is weak/strong against at least 2 other types doing half or 2 times damage. Some are immume, such as Ground is immume to Electric. When you have dual type pokemon, you can be more resistant to more elements but also weak against more elements and also open you up for 4x damage if your pokemon types are both weak against the attacking element. Most pokemon can evolve into another pokemon, usually become stronger. Many have up to 2 stages of evolutions. When your pokemon evolve, its type(s) could also change. such as Rock/Ground >> Steel/Ground. There's a huge list of different moves per type. Your Grass type pokemon can learn many Grass type moves, but very likely about 10% of the total available Grass moves. It can also learn different elements but usually only 1 or 2 naturally. You can also teach it different moves using items (called TM/HM) which usually only have 1 for pick up in entire game (use wisely). Since your pokemon can only have 4 moves at a time, there are npc's that can unlearn/relearn existing moves that your pokemon acquired previously. So, you can have different set of moves depending on how you customize your team. Ummm, I think that's enough info for to interest any RPG fan.

Damn guys, all had to say was it was a good rpg. Me, I didn't get anything past the gold version. Somehow I just don't find the game as appealing as I used to.
