It's pretty insane for a enhanced/re-release of a game to get so much better reviews than originally. I guess it really was just the battle mode that held it back a bit with critics originally.

Apart from the obvious battle mode and extra content, it looks like portability played quite huge role in final scores.

Just in terms of raw power too, the Switch running the game portable is a perfect 60fps 720p rather than the home console WiiU version which was 720p/59 Then you slot the Switch into the dock and you've got a 1080p version again locked at 60fps so it is also a more... HD remaster of the game, which while lacking AA looks absolutely amazingly crisp, looking at the detail on some of the courses like Tick Tock Clock I'm delighted they didn't smear AA on those visuals because it's just so crisp looking the way it plays.

Hopefully as much care is put into the inevitable Smash Bros Wii U Deluxe for the system.

You know... if you think about Mario Kart though all of the IPs and character related stuff is 100% belong to Nintendo, from the Mario Series, DK, Link and Splatoon games just, there is no real time when they needed to go out and talk to other companies about reusing the assets from the WiiU game.

Now look at Smash 4 and think... they'll need to be agreements remade with Square, Sega, Capcom, Rare, Retro Studios (for her model used) , Game Freak/Pokemon Company, Namco and Platinum games just for the characters alone, nevermind the stages and music which came from or directly was assets from other companies, all of that stuff would need to be relicenced for use with the game in a deluxe package again, it would be far more work for Nintendo than just bringing MK8 over from the Wii-U I think.

Retro is 100% owned by Nintendo and the Pokémon Company/Namco shouldn't be much trouble either.

Retro is a publically traded company of whom Nintendo holds the majority of the stock, they don't own 100% of it, unless things have changed since the last place I checked.

Also you're talking about the use of characters such as

MegaMan

Bayonetta

Cloud Strife

Ryu

Pacman

Sonic

Like.... these aren't minor B List gaming characters to be used without a rather large agreement with their IP holders.

Besides even in the ideal situation where it "wasn't much trouble" it would still be more work than the port over of MK8 which like I said uses 100% Nintendo created Characters and Music.

When looking back at this thread to see some of the thoughts pre launch and checking with meta I noticed one thing strange, not MK related but more metacritic related.

Why or how does Disgaea 5 have a switch review a month before launch? I'm a bit lost on this one.
http://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/disgaea-5-complete

The game was released in Japan a while ago, so writing a review for an imported copy isn't witchcraft.

After some stalking of friend coded people from VGchartz.... Raven has the game listed in his played titles. Colour me jealous :(

Retro is 100% owned by Nintendo since 2002... It's a first party studio...

He probably downloaded the demo from the Japanese eShop. I don't think he knows Japanese.

Possible to access that from a Switch in EU you know? I guess.... region change on another account on it.

I haven't done it myself, because the language barrier bothers me. I also have no intention to buy something with a different account.

There should also be a demo of Dragon Quest Heroes I+II on the Japanese eShop, so if you go ahead with this, you might as well look out for that one too.

Busy as shit atm but thanks for the link I'll be digging into that later, just to see what it looks like Disgaea 5 interests be because the Vita never got a port of that with a claim that the game was just too big for that system to be able to handle, considering I have all the series from Prequel to 4 on the Vita I am interested what is so damn big that couldn't fit on there, but can fit on the Switch.
