The hybrid concept of the Nintendo Switch has made it one of my most favourite console hardware of all time (and most likely my overall favourite consoles ever once it build ups a great libary of games).

Now what I'm asking is do you think Nintendo should take the PlayStation root with the Switch and have one core concept from here on out and just refine the hardware, interface and increase it's specs? Should the Switch Successor simply be the Switch 2?

By the time Switch gets replaced, the technology available to have more power than the PS4 in the Switch's same form factor, price and battery life would most likely be a reality. Which is defintely a notable achievement for such a device of the Switch's form factor to allow for a successful and worthwhile Switch successor.

It's also not like Nintendo can't keep adding in something new each time, such as VR or something brand new Nintendo can come up with to implement.

So do you think Nintendo should just stick with the Switch branding and concept from here on out?

If the market wants this concept then yes, they should just develop it further and make it better.
If the market doesn't want hybrid then no, they should make something new, something hip.

Forever? No. For the next 1 or 2 consoles, yes. As you said, they can still keep innovating, and I fully expect the "Switch 2" to have VR - by then it will have become cheap and also, the Switch form-factor is pratically made for it.

We will have to wait and see if it's a success.

Also, we don't really know yet what the future of gaming will bring.

at this point, I'm sure MS and Sony will follow suit in the future.

Depends on how gaming turns into, but at the moment, definitely

I've preferred handhelds over consoles so this hybrid system is truly something I really like

yes for sure. I mean outside of taking into account some crazy revolution in gaming like a freakin holodeck or something, yes. I think the Switch is the ultimate gaming device - not saying necessarily in its current form, but I mean with improvement in the future I think the Switch concept is the most ideal gaming platform. I could definitely see just moderate power upgrades, hdd upgrades, screen upgrades, battery upgrades, maybe pocket-switch, just keep improving on the current concept. Definitely VR (though I think VR is pretty fad-ish and won't ever be a huge player in the industry) will be coming to the Switch at some point by simply providing headgear for the tablet part of the switch (couldn't they do that with the current switch just like you can use smart phones today as VR devices by just splitting the screen?).

It's difficult to say. The future of gaming could be many things... and I'm not sure which one will prevail.

If I were a gambling man, I would put my money on videogame streaming.

Streaming is the natural evolution of home console gaming. You have your TV/Smartphone/Tablet... you have everything you need to enjoy. No need to buy another device (except for a controller), goodbye to the power limits of a console/PC. It's the way to go I think. Of course, this is still an utopia: internet connection must improve, as well as the quality and quantity of servers. The technology is still pretty green.

So in the end, consoles may die and so will Nintendo platforms. But that's in the distant future. For this generation and maybe next... I think the Switch approach is the best for Nintendo. The best of both home consoles and handhelds, no need of making two kind of games... Yes, definitely. As long as consoles are still a thing, Nintendo should stick to this.

I think this is the future for nintendo. I would love to see a Switch 2 with PS4 power or a little more, I believe that would be more than possible by the time the Switch 2 releases.

If they're able to cut out a comfortable market for themselves with it, then sticking with the general concept for another generation or two could be a good idea. We've seen from Sony how effective a strategy "just give people what they like, but better" can be sometimes, and it'd give Nintendo a more stable position in the market.
