It's difficult to say. The future of gaming could be many things... and I'm not sure which one will prevail.
If I were a gambling man, I would put my money on videogame streaming.
Streaming is the natural evolution of home console gaming. You have your TV/Smartphone/Tablet... you have everything you need to enjoy. No need to buy another device (except for a controller), goodbye to the power limits of a console/PC. It's the way to go I think. Of course, this is still an utopia: internet connection must improve, as well as the quality and quantity of servers. The technology is still pretty green.
So in the end, consoles may die and so will Nintendo platforms. But that's in the distant future. For this generation and maybe next... I think the Switch approach is the best for Nintendo. The best of both home consoles and handhelds, no need of making two kind of games... Yes, definitely. As long as consoles are still a thing, Nintendo should stick to this.
