Forums - Sony - Sony's Bringing the 1TB PS4 Slim to the United States

Why do you think consoles abandoned that Xbox360 approach to hard drives? I really liked that one, and it would make upgrading either the hard drive or the console a lot cheaper.

It being $299 is a little surprising, but good news I suppose. I guess that explains why we've been getting so few PS4s in at work...

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I am going to be picking up a PlayStation 4 in the next few months. This is going to make it harder for me to choose between a Pro and Slim (assuming this comes to Canada). Does anyone have suggestions for me?

I am considering the Pro mainly because of better frame rates and partially because of downsampling and also just in case I get a 4K monitor/TV in the future. The downside is it is $500 CAD without any game.

I am consider the Slim because it is...well..slim. But also because it costs $350 CAD with Uncharted 4 (and it also leaves me with enough money to buy the Switch and PS4 games that I want without having to wait).

Any thoughts? Should I maybe get the Slim first to enter the eco-system and then upgrade in a year or two when the Pro is cheaper?

360 HDDs were expensive as fuck. I bought a 20 GB one for my 360 in 2008 for 90 €. For just 100 € I got a 250 GB HDD for my PS3 in rhe very same year.

Thanks them finally allowing external HDD support, hard drive size doesn't even factor in for me anymore. Good for those new to the world of PS4, tho.

Wake me up when they launch the ps4 slim pro vr pack.

That's good! 500GB is way too low imo.

Stick with Switch.

If you still want a PS4 and have a tight budget, it's always best to wait for the holiday deals because Sony shuffles SKUs and bundles repeatedly.

I might just do that. Last year there was a Slim bundle for $300 that I missed, so I would not be surpised that there might be similar deals this holiday for the Slim (or maybe even an official price cut) and maybe even some deals for the Pro.

Every Pro should be bundled with a game optimized for the hardware.

I'm sure they'll have GTSport and Horizon lined up for such a bundle. With the Switch and Scorpio releasing later this year, I think they'll also have a mass market bunlde which is likely to be either Star Wars or RDR2. I know which one I think will do better.

Sony will still get the people who do not know that you can use external drives for games now.  They probalby will be getting rid of the 500GB version dirt cheap on black Friday which would be a smart move.  Either way, nothing really to care about.

If you can afford a Pro then get that. You're going to regret it at some point if you don't. Probably when RDR2 or GTSport releases.
