Microsoft would end up benefiting more from the Release of GTAIV if they hadent already paid 50 million for the DLC.

But now they are already overly invested. If hardware sales are close at all in NA on the release week of GTAIV, then IMO Microsoft looses.

I believe WW, Hardware will be in Sony's favor, but if its within 10,000 of a difference in NA, then that will be telling for how well the PS brand is propelling itself.

Actually wasn't the $50 million just a loan?

Rockstar has to pay it back unless the $50 million isn't made up with DLC pricing.

So I'm just going to go ahead and call you wrong

so by that logic we can assume that the DLC is going to suck then? since it was free for microsoft.

Doubt it.  Rockstar and take 2 were having some serious cash flow probs.  That 50 mil probably was helping to keep them afloat.

Me I think the DLC is going to be pretty substantial because of this.  Which would explain why what is supposed to be isn't being expanded opon.  Rockstar doesn't want to hurt PS3 sales by people who are pissed off the 360 version will be better.  Could even explain the rumors of PS3 also getting some token exclusive content.

Wow This thread is so silly. The reason i say its silly is not because of the thread title, but your pretty pathetic reasoning behind it, you have nothing to back it up, except for this is a "playstation franchise" bullshit. I had a PS2 last gen, and i am actually really thinking of getting this game on the 360, not because of the DLc content, but simply because of price. I have no doubt you are a big fun of the playstation, but at least try and look at things from a more objective veiw, because even if it does sell more on the 360 or PS3 it won't make the game play anymore better. If you are going to make a thread at least try and be a little objective and use some type of evidence to back up your claim. Your execution is epic fail.

Now on the subject Look how call of duty 4 (360) trounced the PS3 version sales wise in NA, i think the GTA effect will reflect this situation more. Though i have no doubt that outside of the Uk, the PS3 will probably benefit more in Europe.

I will just add this to the flamefest:

To the folks saying people will buy a PS3 just because the series was first on the PS1 and PS2 - when Sony axed the BC from the PS3, they told the PS2 folks 'Get with the program - your PS2 is old. Step up and leave the past in the past.'

Sony PROVED how much they cared about the PS2 crowd. Why should the PS2 crowd swing their support to Sony after being pimped slapped?

Given the fact that most PS2s sold when they were $199 and less, I think it's safe to say the cheapest system will benefit the most from GTA IV. Plus, the cheaper system has the exclusive content - the ability to play in-game music and everything - EVERYTHING - the PS3 version has.

LOL at folks who think the complete but not complete version of GTA IV will move consoles from Sony. Blu Ray is moving consoles for Sony, not games.

Rockstar: "They're identical games. We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want. But I guess if you want the complete experience with the episodes, then yeah, you should buy the 360, I suppose."

what? I was only talking about the bolded section, madskillz seems to think that only blu-ray is selling the ps3, and nothing else. which is clearly dead wrong when you take 10 seconds to look at attach rates.

Yeah, please head over to the world software attach rates from Jan. '08 until now. Based on the number of consoles sold, as well as current owners, I don't believe the 360 has had a week where it was under 1M games moved. And that's without packed-in games either. Do it and see for yourself.

Broken record? LOL - I can hardly wait until the 360 version owns the PS3 version. Price matters big time. I'm calling the shot - make sure you bookmark this page and revive it a month after GTA IV drops. I'll gladly feast on crow if I'm wrong.

For a person working a low-paying job, with little cash and they wanna play GTA - to think they are gonna pay $480 plus just to play a version of GTA with no hopes of extra episodes is enough to make me run and get my asthma pump from laughing sooo hard. Sure, it will move a few consoles, but the way MS is gonna pimp the extra content angle, and plaster it online and on TV, even if folks never buy the content, MS has a sale.

Ads work wonders - and MS is gonna own GTA IV. Mark my words.

Alright.  I'm marking your words.  Just like the PS3 was going to sink below 360 sales after Christmas, which was rescheduled until the spring.  Now the Euro pricecut is in effect.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

GTAIV isn't going to be as helpful to hardware sales as everyone thinks, nor will it sell as many copies as it did on the PS2. The previous installments sold as well as the did because they were released on a console that was already selling extremely well. This isn't the case with either the 360 or the PS3. There's also the fact that most copies of the previous GTA installments were sold on a console that cost $199 or less whereas the 360 and PS3 are considerably more expensive. Last, but not least, the last GTA's were released during the holiday season. GTAIV is coming in the spring.

DLC isn't going to matter to anyone except hardcore gamers who already own 360's. Most people couldn't care less about online gameplay and have never even hooked up a console to the internet, much less will they give a damn about extra content that they'd have to pay for.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

you really are a 360 fanboy. i bet you would take a bullet for microsoft
