I kinda called this concept ... hybrid portable console that you set down and invite people to play together.
That said ... Nintendo is out of touch with this actual audience they think they're appealing to with 1,2 Switch.
They think it's still 2007 and that crowd will pay $50 for such a game (or even $20, they can't even get this crowd to pay even $10 for Mario) ... they are simply wrong.
1,2 Switch is not what is driving Switch adoption nor will it will it be anywhere close to what Wii Sports or Wii Fit was. Japan is likely it's best market and in Japan it's selling about on par with what Nintendo Land was doing. Nintendo hasn't had a huge hit with casuals in like 7 years now, that market has gone past them.
Think of how much social media attention Wii Sports/Fit would get if Twitter/Facebook/Instagram was a big thing in 2006-2008 ... it would dominate social media chatter .... 1,2 Switch has basically none. It's simply not taking off with the wider audience, with Wii Sports I remember tons of my friends who weren't into gaming coming up to me and talking about it or asking about it by December 2006 ... 1,2 Switch, nothing, nada, zilch. "Beer/party game" ... I don't think so, it's not taking off in that respect.
The main non-Nintendo fans I've had come up to me and chat about Switch are basically Playstation/XBox owners actually asking "how's Zelda?", "is it really that good?", etc. etc.
If they had not wised up and held Zelda for Switch launch, they would be in a lot of trouble right now. Nintendo would be wise to understand what is buttering their bread ... more games like Zelda and Splatoon are needed, if they wander away from that, they are going to get themselves into trouble.
