Forums - Microsoft - Now that Yooka Laylee is essentially a critical failure... this is good time for Banjo Three!

I never thought Banjo Kazooie was as good as people hyped it. Hell, I didn't hear much acclaim for the series until Jontron, Peanut Butter Gamer, and similar such Youtubers acted like it was the ultimate hidden gem of the N64

Maybe you were never interested in the game. Banjo is akin to Mario 64 as Perfect Dark is to Goldeneye.

That's possible. I will admit, I do prefer SM64 and Goldeneye to BK and PD

They're the refinement of their antecessor.

I dunno. As much as I would love Banjo-Threeie, it would probably require Nintendo's developers to do it justice. I trust neither Microsoft nor Rare to deliver. Playtonic seems to have stumbled out of the gate as well.

I think the problem with this scenario is twofold. One, Microsoft doesn't have the interest to fund such a project; two, Playtonic seems to value its independence.

Banjo was the best platformer on the N64 imho. I played DK64 more back in the day but having revisted them, Banjo was far better and more polished and I hope to God Nintendo gets the franchise back to its spiritual home.

Banjo creator is still at Rare. You know, he's making banjo predecessor at the moment, Sea of Thieves

You got it the other way around. If anything Microsoft will see it as one more proof that people don't want these games anymore.

Yeah. It had a LOT of attention, and it underdelivered. So, I can see MS saying, "why bother?". It would likely have lukewarm sales on the platform even if it was a completely competent game.

I think Yooka-Laylee will be a big enough success for Playtonic to continue to operate independently.

Yes, I know Mayles is still there. That doesn't mean much to me, I'm afraid. Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie were made by dozens of programmers, artists, and creative minds. Banjo didn't emerge fully-formed from Mayles head, like Athena from Zeus. It took people like George Andreas and Chris Sutherland to make the game a reality. It also took the leadership of Tim Stamper and the stewardship of Nintendo.

This genre is heavily outdated, even Mario 64 is boring nowadays if there is not nostalgia attached to it, I'm praying for Mario Odyssey to be good, I hope is not as much as Mario 64 as people want. Because people doesn't know what they really want, Yookay-Laylee is good proof of that, is exactly what they promised (minor the technical issues) but now that people get to play it they realise is not interesting anymore.
