Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GameStop: Nintendo Switch is Selling Out “Within Hours”; Demand “Incredibly Strong”

Seriously, anyone that is still talking about understocking should be ashamed.

Gamestop wants a system that will let them keep selling a lot of physical stuff (accessories, games, screen protectors, amiibo) to do well so take it with a grain of salt.

There are a ton of compelling reasons to believe the Switch is doing well though.

1.) Selling well above MSRP on eBay
2.) It's hard to find
3.) Even accessories and games appear to be sold out in a lot of places

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the Switch will do well. For starters, the system does what it is billed to do. It plays the same games at home and on the go and that works pretty flawlessly. The more and more I look at the 2017 lineup, the stronger it looks.

They launched with what will probably get GotY by a ton of outlets and they're capping the year with an EAD Tokyo Mario game. Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 will almost assuredly be really good. They're launching three new IPs. Their indie presentation was really strong. So on and so on.

Even so, I distinctly remember when the Wii U came out, I always heard Gamestop employees (in the stores I frequented) talking customers out of buying Wii U's.  Which made no sense to me, because sales of any system should be good for the store.

Damn Switch is hard to find. I was lucky to get my hands on a Wal-Mart Switch just as the units came live on WM's website.

I guess what that probably indicates is that the motivations and goals of GameStop at large don't always line up with the guy getting paid $9/hour to staff the counter.

the wii u thing might happen to the switch. sell 3 million units real quick...then struggle to hit 10 million and slowly hit 20 near the end.

good luck ninty!!!!!

I didn't expect to see strong demand at that price point. Glad to be proven wrong.

Wii U didn't hit 20M, tho

i know....im being optamistic that it will surpass the wii u by 7 million units.

More meaningless anecdotal evidence:

I bought a Switch at launch and I didn't even know that the Wii U existed until probably a few months after it's launch.

The marketing is leaps and bounds above what they did with the Wii U. The message about what this thing is and what it does is crystal clear.
