Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Tegra X2 in Switch?

This guy really seems to know what he is talking about... especially in the comments section. Is it possible that the SOC for Switch is really X2? I found it interesting although it makes little difference to me. Really, this was about the fact that I did not see that anybody else had posted this video or discussed the possibility of the console having the X2

No its not.

They have cut open the chip inside a switch, and taken X-ray photo's or however the hell they do it, and analysed it, and it matches up perfectly to a Tegra X1.

So the answear is NO, its not possible.

When you have Photo proof that shows near 100% match, with die's inside the chips.

There is no debate anymore.

Switch = Tegra X1.

No room for debate in this matter.

Why does it use less power than the Tegra X1? becuase its not a full X1, Nintendo downclock it, and turn things off, to conserve power.

Its still a Tegra X1 though.

This is a good thing too, it means in the near future, nintendo can make a "better" Switch a 2.0, that ll be more powerfull and use less power, based on Tegra X2.

no, we have clear die shots of the Switch SoC and a Tegra X1, they are identical

What does the X2 look like?

find me die shots of two different GPU's that looked identical, ever, in the history of electronics.

The guys talking out of his ass.

The thing has been taken apart and is confirmed to be an X1. X2 is not even ready for mass production yet. X2 is still just a chip for a car atm.

Actually pay attention to what he says. I am not trying to say it is, I am asking is it possible people are incorrect in what they think the SOC is. He does make it very clear, with a couple good facts, that the SOC is X2.

It is not like NVIDIA or Nintendo confirmed the SOC is X1. But who knows? It is not like it having an X2 will alter my perception of the console. I already own one.

It is an X1, my god why are you guys letting yourselves be fooled so easily by a random 18 year old looking youtuber. It reminds of the secret sauce that was supposedly in the Xbone.

Here photographic evidence

Had Nintendo waited until Fall 2017 then they would have been able to put X2 in it, a win scenario for the consumers and longevity of the system.

Btw, where did you find this video, with only 800 views it must be someone close to you!

I thought the same, it seems he and a couple other smallfry novices are trying to make a name for themselves by cashing in on the hopes and dreams of nintendo fans still wasting their time hoping that the switch is better than it is.

it's sad in many ways.

While not in the Switch now I believe from what has been written a X2 could form the basis of a Switch revision with much longer battery runtime and less prone to frame rate drops. Whether this would be a slightly customised X2 or a stock X2 to remain 100% compatible is another matter.

I will answer this one happily. I have no idea who that guy is. I was watching videos about Switch while washing dishes and it was just the next video to play.

I never said I believe the guy or know the guy. If you read the rest of my posts you can see where I said, "someone smarter than me says X then someone smarter than me says Y to counter X" because that was my point of bringing this up. I am not a hardware guy and I know very little about this stuff. I admitted to being a knownothing person on this and I was looking for the conversation to give me closure and you guys did.

I think the video has few views because he is unknown and he is wrong. It is not like the video deserves views if dude is so incorrect. He just had me wondering, that is all there is to it.

there is no X2 in commercial use, so we don't know - it won't look the same as the X1, it uses different CPU cores, a different GPU architecture and has a wider memory bus (all of which should be visibly different in a die shot)

and it's been designed for 16nm process, while the Switch SoC is manufactured in 20nm (like the X1)

Wrong. The X2 is in commercial use. Just not in any direct consumer segments. Volta Tegra which is the successor to the X2 has been demonstrated in the market as far back as January in cars.

You are right that it will look vastly different than the X1.

While I believe you, I would like to know what he is wrong about. See, my way of thinking is (and call it hopeful thinking) that someone that is smarter than me says something, I say, "that could be logical" and then someone else that is smarter than me tells me why what the other person said is nonsense and I go, "OK, now THAT makes more sense" but instead, I have not gotten that. I prefer to go with clarity. I am not smart enough to just take sides, I need it to be dumbed down for me otherwise, I can be fooled.

We have pictures with an electron microscope which allows us to see The Tegra X1 and Switch SoC in detail. They are pretty much identical.
Ergo. Tegra X1 is 100% confirmed for the switch.

Anyone who claims otherwise literally doesn't know what they are talking about.

GhaudePhaede010 said:

This is the interesting part because his video explains that the power consumption is the main reason he comes to this conclusion. Switch's power consumption is better than a stock Tegra X1's power consumption. That is exactly what brought me here in the first place.

Could it be a modified Tegra X1 then?

Mostly due to the lower clocks, more aggressive binning and lower voltages.

The chip itself isn't modified, not architecturally, but it's clocks and volts do deviate from the typical Tegra X1 standard.

It's not possible. It's wishful thinking that it's anything other than the X1.

I think the reason people desire for it to be the X2 is so that the Switch doesn't seem like it's using old and outdated technology.

You and Yuri are far more knowledged in this area than I am and that is why I am posting this reply to say thank you for helping me out. While it seems like a no-brainer now, I really was wondering if it was possible. You two gave me perfect explanations and are exactly why I came here to post the video. I appreciate both of you being very clear and non-confrontational about this.

Why does this thread exist lol

We have had 4958320958 "Errrrh maxwell, pascal, or X420?" threads since the NX days. This has been dead for quite some time.

shouldnt this thread have its title changed (like that line that runs though it, and then (untrue) at the end) , and then be locked?
How do you debate against Photo evidence that proves its not?
