Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft’s Efforts to Bring Japanese Games to Xbox One Should be Encouraged, Not Mocked

Then again, Japanese close mindedness has resulted in a pretty poor offering across the board... Of course you have a few exceptions... But IMHO their glory days are largely overstated and over rated today.... And even the good ones lack of ambition and especially lack of crativity it's been pretty much the same formula reaheated a hundred times over... It's just stale by now....
And their stubborn uncalled patriotism is weakening their own companies... Not enough localizations, not enough multi plat= les ROI= less and less budget for the next game= less and less quality.... They need to wake up and get into the 21st century era of doing business especially in the tech industry it's more true than anywhere else...

So working with MS if only to have their games on PC should be a no brainer....

Why do people just assume SB was cancelled out of spite?  Like MS doesn't want to release a new IP for the heck of it?  Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe it wasn't coming along as good as promised?

They may have done gaming a favour by cancelling it.

You never do the medium any favours by killing ideas before they can hit the market for everyone to learn from. Good or Bad. Look at Nier. The first one was railed by critics and is exactly the kind of game that Microsoft would have cancelled before even marketing.

Microsoft is TERRIFIED of risk. This is what seperates them from Sony and Nintendo. That aversion for risk is what we all identify as milking. It's Killed Halo, it's killing COD and it has pretty much neutered Gears of War.

They don't understand the essence of gaming. They dont deserve to be in the medium in the first place, if this is the stance they take. When they had something to prove MS was a force. Such a force that people wondered if Sony could even mount a comeback for the next gen (But they did it with the PS3 slim) Microsoft approached Gen 7 with a chip on their shoulder. Achievements, A strong focus on Online Gameplay and community. Microsoft 2005-2010 is not Microsoft 2013- Present.

They Suck.

Fuck MS.

wait Sony taking risks ???? We are talking about the same company here???? If there is a company with a shit management, holding on one leg for a decade, with zero ambition, bleeding cash like a slitted swine, not even able to leverage their own licences to support it's own divisions it's Sony.... I know I actually worked with their marketing division in Europe in the past and one of my best friend is handling their social media advertising budget... If there is one company lacking ambition and vision it's Sony by far.... Sea of thieves, sunset overdrive, fable, halo, forza h, QB etc were all more ambitious and original than what I ha e seen coming out of sony

Funny how, as you post this, the front page shows two Japanese games with 90+ metascore. RE7, Nioh, Nier and Yakuza 0 are prominent 2017 critical hits. Soon, Splatoon 2 & ARMS will join the list. The Last Guardian is too recent to be forgetton as well. Toss in Danganronpa and Zero Escape 2017 collections and tell me you are not living in a post-fact world.

No Go on. Tell me how the trifecta of Forza/Halo/Gears and the dead carcass of Fable outclass the output Sony has had this year ALONE.

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I agree that MS should be encouraged to bring to more Japanese games to their platform but they should also be criticised for any half assed attempts. The overall goal in my opinion in the "get more Japanese games" effort is not to do better in Japan but appeal to gamers around the world that like Japanese games. It's completely worth the effort for MS.

Well Sony has had Horizon, Gravity Rush, and The Show so far. Is this where opinions come in? Because I'd take Halo Wars 2 over GR2/Show 17 any day of the week. And Sony needed a strong first quarter since AFAIK they didn't release anything but TLG in the last quarter of 2016, though I could be wrong and missing a game or two.

I mean.. if you're talking risk, the only risky game in Sony's output this year has been GR2, and I doubt it was even much of a risk, no way did it have a budget requiring tons of sales. Or by "Sony's output" are you including third party games Sony didn't touch like Nioh, Persona, and Neir?

Bingo. Actually, I think the Japanese offerings have been unusually weak lately, but I remember that before the Xbox One, whenever MS developed a Japanese game, it was always top of the line. Here's hoping they still hold them up to high standards.

They deserve the mockery and disrespect, lets remember that they didnt care at all some months until all these Japanese PS4 games actually got good reviews on metacritic. They canceled Scalebound a Japanese exclusives on their platform too some month ago.

No, they stopped when they named Mattrick head of Xbox. Spencer tried but Scalebound didn't pan out so they are now relying on PDR...

Naw. I rather mock them. Microsoft entering the console and publishing business had a severe negative effect. The whole games industry would be in a better condition without their interference. And they proven this time and again.

Not sure if I agree on that one they made some great games and Halo defenitly is a milestone for first person shooters. Ninja Gaiden was also great and all big companies pull some lousy moves at times. Except for Nintendo obviously because they can't do anything wrong.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
