so is the uncanny valley going to be an issue next gen? or is it too early still?
or do you think devs can maybe work around that issue?

Feels like we're getting quite close to diminishing returns on this stuff.
This doesn't look any better than something like the UC4 Nathan Drake model to me.
The modeling quality is good overall, but that doesn't look like Geralt, and the beard looks patched on his face. It clashes with the rest and looks unnatural.

It's something I've been working on for a few weeks (I cannot go much more into it than that). |
You're still at it?
Looks very pretty.
Gotta be honest, I kind of wish they'd just make a world where you could make your own character and walk off into it. I've never found Geralt to be that interesting, but they're amazing world builders.
His facial hair looks like a porcupine. It looks really weird. Eyes and skin texture seem pretty off in some way. Glassy and rubbery. Also looks like a Back to the Future 2 hiring a different actor but using prosthetic to make it look like the previous actor. (George Mcfly) Sorry just not feeling this.

Indeed. It's why I give CDP:R the props that I do! |
Yeah, I should clarify that I do like Geralt, I just sort of wish I didn't have to be Geralt. It'd be more interesting (in my opinion) to be your own person who occasionally interacts with him throughout the main storyline, but I know I'm in the minority there.
Again though, those images look stunning.

Uncanny valley is still years off from being fully eliminated. It was present in StarWars: Rogue One film with Princess Leiah and Tarkin... And they had orders of magnitude hardware and time (Aka. Not real-time rendering) than what is found in consoles to solve the problem.
Go back 20 years and I used to say: "I can't wait untill we can see the individual fingers on a character" and here we are today. I think we have progressed amazingly well to be honest... As we are literally splitting hairs now. ;)

Some of my relatives didn't initially realize Tarkin was fake... I'm curious if it would have been more successful had less of us been fully aware that it essentially HAD to be CGI.
But yeah, that "uncanny valley" is definitely a hard valley to cross; there's just something disturbing about something that's ALMOST fully human, but not quite, and for whatever reason we all seem to have subconscious radars sweeping constantly for that sort of thing.
