Forums - Nintendo - Will wii= ds in terms of 3rd party support.

Uh...I think you need a deeper analysis first. What was competing against the DS? The PSP. We all know how that competition went. So for the portable market, the DS dominates. The Wii is selling quite well but so is its competition: PS3, 360, and even PC. It's pretty much the Wii against all three not to mention it still has to shake its image, whether the image is correct or not. From a publisher's perspective, they're going to put hardcore games on the PS3/360/PC. Unless that part of the gaming population dies from a plague started by a Nintendo fanboy, the Wii won't get that type of support as much as the DS.

Really, if you know a specific segment of gamers exist on one platform, you're going to make games that will cater to those gamers.

It should

Wii Code: 4819-7684-2396-4558

No.

See, the DS situation was different. Both the PS3 and 360 move software, unlike the PSP. Third-parties aren't going to say screw the HD consoles when there is plenty of money to be made on them. The Wii isn't going to get the 3rd party support people expect from a "winning" console.

But why spend more money to make about the same as you could by spending less. There is no doubt most games would sell better on the wii. So wouldn't it just be better to spend a considerabely less amount to get the around the same sales as one version. Now it is combining all three(Ps3,360,pc) if it is a multiplat, but that doesn't explain exclusives for the consoles.

Well obviously its going to get more 3rd Party support. But how much is the question. And I'm thinking, not that much more. DS software sales overshadowed the PSP, but Wii software sales ain't that much higher than PS3 and 360.
I believe that the Wii is a next gen console. But i don't believe it's in the same market as PS3 and 360. Those 2 are HD consoles, which is kind of a different market if you ask me.

rockband came to wii, because it was an easy port to do and has a very casual appeal even with its price.

I dont think the wii will ever get the same support the ps2 did as the winning console, but i think no console for the rest of history will get the same support the ps2 did.

also remember that most games go ps3, 360 and when u combine there install base it is a bit bigger than the wii and hardcore games sell better on those systems. Like just look at bully its doing double the wii numbers on the 360 with a lower install base

WHo said anything about the ps2. We were talking about the ds

The one thing that all gens had in common is the winning console gets supported and that wont change, as the Wii's lead and install base grows larger then it's third party support will also.

I already see companies changing their attitude towards the Wii with THQ showing much more quality with De-Blob and Deadly Creatures, EA acknowledging that My Sims being one of the only games they created from scratch for the Wii being their best seller on the platform, The Wii being Sega's best platform for sales this gen (and probably already made them more than the PS2 ever did), rumours that Ubisoft moved Red Steel 2 development to somewhere else cos they suddenly decided the quality of the game wasn't "high enough", Konami showing so much more time has paid off in Wii Pro evo as compared to their other paltry offerings and the list goes on.

The Wii has nothing to worry about and it's only now it's showing that some of Wii's third party games seriously have legs.

Yea, right, revisionist history ftl.

You've already forgotten the DS that was supposed to be crushed by the PSP, the PSP which got all the hardcore games, and who did move software at launch. The DS was seen as a desperate move by Nintendo by people thinking exactly like you do now.

It's funny that you say don't screw the HD consoles that are less successful, but still say the Wii will be screwed (The Wii isn't going to get the 3rd party support people expect from a "winning" console), while it being the most successful console among the three. What you say just isn't rational, at all.

When big videogame 3rd parties will start to see small ones starting to catch to them in profit, and even pass them, thanks to their Wii support, perhaps they will start to understand, but it will be too late.

Nintendo is already crushing all 3rd parties in Japan, since the Wii is out. 3rd parties pretty much know why, now they can make their choice.

I can see simalaritys between DS and Wii when it comes to third party support, third party support didnt really kick off till 2006 on DS I felt and now it has some fantastic third party support. I think will see better games this year for wii and they'll improve again next year and by 2010 we should be seeing some really fantastic games.
