Forums - Sony - PS3 Production To End In Japan.

Time to start ramping up Pro and Slim production, and getting ready for PS4 Premium. PS3 was an awesome device, and I greatly enjoyed my time with it.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Hmm, might pick up an extra PS3 before they end production.

Yah I'm thinking the same. My 320GB slim is 6 or 7 years old I guess. I don't want to be left without my PS3 games thanks to PS4 avoiding BC like the plague.

I'm confused 'PS3 production to end in Japan'. Does that mean they are stopping selling them in Japan or is there some sort of limited manufacturing there now stopping. PS3's are mostly made in China.

If I recall correctly, PS products in Japan are actually manufactured there.

Possibly just consoles, and probably not even every console. I have a few PS3 and PS4 controllers bought in Japan that all say made in china. Have a PS3 super slim bought in Japan too, but it's in storage and can't check :/ Think it might have been made in Japan tho, if I remember correctly. It'll probably outlive all of my other consoles if it is haha

I will buy 2 more at the end of this year then.

One for me and one for my bro.

It is still outselling the Xbox One and Wii U combined in Japan though...

I just looked at the latest charts and you're wrong. Wii U sold more than PS3.

More importantly, those are all devices selling in the hundreds weekly in Japan. They're all dead in Japan.

Actually I am right according to Media Create.

Famitsu has different numbers though.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. It's time to go out with the old, in with the new.

Yeah, still abysmal numbers for them all. Again, all are dead in Japan.

Its also worth noting new Wii Us have become difficult to find, unless you wanna pay more than $299. Pretty amazing for a failed console.

Most people interested in a PS3 could just by used, plenty around.

I think PS3 is the best of the 7th generation. Better than Wii, and much better than the 360. I am sad to hear this. However, Sony kept their word and supported it for 10 years! They supported PS1, 2, 3, and PSP for many years. Vita, not nearly as well, but it does still have some support and perhaps a year or 2 before there is no more support. Sony supports their systems for 5 years + That is part of why I like Sony best. Microsoft and Nintendo cut their systems lives short. Original Xbox under 5 years. Wii U at about 4 years. Pathetic.

Poor PS3

As for the low sales... well yeah, it's still so expensive! When I wanted one I got a used one instead because it's so much cheaper. Should get a price cut rather than being discontinued...

Probably Nvidia still wanting full royalties on its gpu in the ps3.

The bulk of the assembly would happen there. But manufacturing of all the components? Not a chance.
