Forums - Nintendo - Overwatch on Switch ? " is very challenging for us " says Overwatch Director

If they were gonna bring this game to Switch I'd think it would already be in the works unless they got their dev kits really late. So this tells me it's not gonna happen, which is what I expected, but we'll see.

But maybe Blizzard is still prejudiced after their previous game on a Nintendo console didn't exactly set the world on fire!! Oh, the good ol' Starcraft 64

Have you looked at the second hand prices of StarCraft 64... It's bullshit. Haha. (I am trying to get a copy.)

I bet it's crazy, but Blizzard gets nothing from it

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Easy to check. Microsoft will soon release Windows 10 for ARM, just take a tablet with the X1, install Windows 10 on it and try to fiddle with the game=P

No need to do all that

Switch has the same power an HD520 has, or near it, it can run OW at 30fps...

PS4: Tryklon  Steam: Tryklon

Switch: 0307-6588-7010 | New 2DS XL: 2037-2612-6964

MacBook Air (Mid 2017) | iPhone SE | Apple Watch Series 3

I mean wouldn't most people play local multiplayer without wi-fi in handheld mode ?

Overwatch is kinda demanding on pc, don't see how that would happen unless they really tried to make a good port

Are you sure? PC min specs look rather humble. Other PC versions of Switch ports are in the same class of raw power.

  • Operating system: Windows Vista/7/ 8/10 64-bit (latest Service Pack)
  • Processor: Intel Core i3 or AMD Phenom X3 865.
  • Video: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460, ATI Radeon HD 4850, or Intel HD Graphics 4400.
  • Memory: 768 MB VRAM, 4 GB System RAM.
  • Storage: 7200 RPM with 5 GB available HD space

Steep's minimum tech requirements are even a well bit higher than Overwatch's and it's getting released on the Switch no problem, so I think it's possible even if it means a bit of tweaking.

Supported OS: Windows® 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 or Windows® 10(64bit versions)
Processor: Intel Core i5 2400s at 2.5 Ghz or AMD FX-4100 at 3.6 Ghz
Memory: 6GB
Video Card: GeForce GTX560Ti or AMD Radeon R7 260X
DirectX: DX 10
Hard Drive Space: 25 GB

It's also not the only online shooter coming as Splatoon 2 is coming, meaning just because the Switch is a portable doesn't mean it will miss out on that genre, besides local play could always be a thing.

For the math to make sense that Wifi would 1/3rd the battery life of the Switch playing Zelda you are suggesting that the Wifi portion of the console uses 200% the power of the entire rest of the device.

Stop and think about for a minute. Then stop.

Constant use of wifi for a heavy graphical game? There is no way that would last anywhere near 3 hours.

Perhaps instead of passive aggressive insults you actually add to the conversation.

How long do you think a graphically intense MMO would last on a handheld?

You do know the consuption of a Wi-Fi chip is in the milliwatts? Compared to over 3 Watts for the rest of the Switch it doesn't add a huge drain even if it's always on.

Worse, if the Switch is constantly checking for Wi-Fi signals like most other mobile devices do, the chip is always active even though it doesn't get put to use (background update downloading nonwithstanding).

Long story short, it could make the Switch drop from 3:00 to 2:45 and that's about it.

By the way, do you really think Nintendo would release Splatoon 2 on the Switch if players would have to recharge their console every 3-4 matches? I think not.

The performance wouldn't be so hot. Once more, if we look at how Zelda u is running on the switch at 900p, overwatch might chug on the switch.

I don't think Breath of the Wild is a good example for determining how Overwatch would run on the Switch.

Not saying I think the Switch can run Overwatch at 720p 60fps, or even a stable 30.  I'm just saying that the hardware used for a game like Breath of the Wild and how it's used for Overwatch aren't really equivalents.
