Forums - Gaming - Why doesn't Sony promote trade ins for the Pro?

We all know the non-pro models are much more popular, but i don't see why the pro can't be as well.

We also know Sony and Microsoft are 'battling' each other, so why doesn't Sony target xbox fans? They can do a trade in promotion like this:

Trade in a ps4 and get X amount of dollars off

Trade in an xbox one and get X+Y amount of dollars off

I know Sony is well ahead, but adding more customers and removing competition seems like a good idea. The only con to this is the modest amount of pros available. Otherwise, I don't see how this can harm sony.

Sony cares about software sales. Having more Pros and less Vanilla PS4s in the market does nothing for them. It may even lose them money.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

People will decide for themselves soon if they want a PS4pro or a Xbox Scorpio.

They will be standing in stores looking at two box's:
PS4 Pro 299$-349$.  (normal PS4slim 199$ at that point)
Xbox Scorpio 449$-499$  (normal XB1slim 199$ at that point)

4k checkerboarding via the PS4pro, or pay extra and get it natively.
I think the price differnce will be enough to sway people to go for a PS4pro instead.

Either that or their happy with 1080p and go for a normal version because of price.

Why should Sony be interested in PS4 owners to switch to the PS4 Pro?

Are the prices of PS4 Pro games higher? No, they are the same games.
Are there exclusve PS4 Pro titles? No.
Will PS4 Pro owners buy more PS4 software? Probably not.

With todays announcement of PS4 titles coming to PC, it appears Sony has lost interest in the hardware business, and instead wants to go into the server based service industry. So I would not be surprised if they severely cut back efforts in the hardware space. Why try to get people to buy new hardware when you can just bring your software to them, on one of the many pieces of hardware they already own?

The way they have been suffocating PSVR and Pro supplies makes this look even more likely. This is right in line with what they did with Vita when they decided to kill it off in favor of Xperia.

I would assume that the board has looked at the profit in the PlayStation division, and see that a major percentage is coming from PS Store, PS Vue, PS Now, and PS Video, and they have instructed Kaz to slowly move away from hardware, and focus souly on the services.

I could be wrong, and I hope I am wrong, but I have seen Sony do this to many times in the last 20 years. It has never turned out good. It is like they are ashamed to be the company that built there brand around gaming, so any time they start to succeed they quickly kill progression, and try to do things in a more traditionally respectable manner. If they do it again, it may be the last time, because they may not be able to recover if they put the final nail in the PlayStation coffin.

In simpler terms, I think Sony is not pushing Pro, because they have lost interest in hardware. Not from Kaz Hirai, Andrew House, or Shawn Layden, but from the board that makes the decisions, since this flies right in the face of what Kaz, Shawn, and Andrew where saying 6 months ago. I think the powers that be have instructed them to drop hardware focus and turn PlayStation into a service.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Sony just doesn't need to.

This year they need to focus on making as much money as possible from just selling hardware and software as is for as long as possible before they start competing aggressively in the only way they can this year; and thats by dropping prices.

Only reason i got one was because of a trade-in promotion. But it was a store initiative and not sony.

They don't gain anything by having a used ps4.

Because they don't give a shit about people wanting to upgrade to a Pro.

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

A $199 PS4 or $299 Pro would definitely appeal to me much more than a super beefy Xbox One.
