Your argument is very flimsy as you flat out admit that the are things it doesn't cover then come back with "But but you can still do this", I've played all the FC games BOTW has an equivalent for most if not all you can do in them and far more.

FC on the otherhand has no answer for many of the things in Zelda, you can't fully manipulate the physics in FC, you can't use an enemy's body parts as weapons in FC, you can't store kinetic energy in boulders grab on to them and ride them as they fly off in FC, you can't burn the ground to cause an updraft jump off you horse for height and use the updraft to fly in FC, you can't manipulate gravity to move or throw objects at enimies in FC etc... Sorry but FC doesn't even come close to what you can do in BOTW.

All these things relate to the magic setting that is of course Zelda specific. I also haven't said that Far Cry is better. I only said that all open world games have their flaws and things they do better than BOTW. BOTW still has flaws that all in all bog it down to the level of other open world games that do some things better but have different flaws.

You said it yourself, it's about the sum of the things and if you factor everything in BOTW it's not better or worse than other open world games. At least for me but apparently I have a weird taste and put more emphasis on certain things that others don't mind.

It's also weird that you praise the realistic physics and then go on about the completely unrealistic amount of updraft from small fires.

I think you've already answered your own question since your original post, one would literally have to make a list of decent to high rated games to try to solidify the argument that the new Zelda is nothing special when you combine all the good points from the list of games, that's how high the bar is with this game already, you just haven't realized your own counter argument lol.

A 10/10 does not imply a perfect game (there is no such thing.) It is just the best score one can get when rated against other games that one might buy. Plenty of games with performance issues have gotten excellent scores. A recent example was The Witcher 3.

I played Witcher 3.  I think the performance issues are far more significant in BotW.

At least BotW doesn't have those terrible Witcher load times though.

Did you play TW3 on PC? I didn't have loading issues with SSD on PC at least.

I am enjoying the hell out of it.

If you love Zelda, there really is NO reason to skip this entry. It feels unlike any Zelda game ever, but in the best way, because it IS still Zelda. So refreshing. It's just what the franchise needed. It's like Zelda meets the Witcher, or something.

I am loving the controller too. Something I never thought I would say. It's surprisingly sturdy, and almost MORE fun to play with the joy cons separate than shoved into the classic controller mold.

what is the deal with people obsessing over user metacritic scores? there are loads of troll reviews for most big exclusives, it's nothing new and Zelda isn't somehow meant to be above that kind of thing

as for the game, after watching quite a lot of it, I'm struggling to see what exactly makes it a 98 rather than a 91/92, but I'll reserve full judgement for when playing.

That's the thing, I was exactly in the same boat, I didn't see the big deal and was expecting it to be around the same score or lower than the witcher 3, then I started playing it..... lol

Also, just watch how I solved this puzzle, that's why this game is awsome, you can do whatever the fuck you want in your own way a lot of the times for as long as you can figure it out. Don't watch this if you don't want puzzle spoiler within the first 10 hours of the game though.

I did something similar only on the first corner when you're rolling it through I flicked it off the platform across the room.

I'm glad someone else is enjoying the separated joycon, i have large hands and didn't think it would work for me, but holding a traditional controller already feels weird to me.

"Is Breath of the Wild really that good?"
I didn't think so before playing it, but yes. I didn't think that Nintendo could make a game like that anymore, I thought the press was, as they often are with Nintendo, biased. But I was wrong.

I've been gaming for 25 years, and played hundreds of games, this one is going to easily end up in my top ten. I'm a huge Zelda fan, and I think I have my new number 1.

I've been playing it on WiiU BTW

And don't take into account the score for those user "reviews", here is a few of them.

Bunch of dumbass kids trying to be smart...

Based on reviews score it's 98 (honestly I haven't seen such high score since I remember) but players gave it only 78.
I can't decide if I should buy Switch but seeing this score I guess I should but console for this game only.

So I am asking you. What are your opinions on Breath of the Wild (even if you did not finish game yet). Is this game worth buy console for?

I understand that for a Zelda game it's great. But if you look at it as a next gen game, it isn't. I understand that there are very irritating technical issues, but overall it's good.  I've not played it myself yet, but I from previous Zelda games I'm certain that the quality of the game. So gameplay, story, choices etc this will be a very good game!

Also to have a WII U game on a handheld is a great thing, so maybe some of the critics are more comparing this game as a hybrid (handheld and console) game rather then a next gen console game! Presonally I think that with the Switch the reviewers need to inform very detailed the positive and negative points of the game in Console mode and seperatly in handheld mode. Because I seen already with friends that they said that they were very irrited with the Zelda game in console mode, but in handheld mode they were really very very positive.

will see for myself when I receive mine
