This is a memory bandwidth issue... its why the drops can seemingly occur randomly when there isn't that much on the screen or when the camera is rotated.

But this brings me back to what I have kinda been saying, the NS is a handheld first and a home console second. According to DF it even looks better in the handheld mode due to its 1;1 pixel mapping at 720p and looks softer in docked mode due to running at 900p then upscaling to 1080p.

And this is Nintendo first party here... if they can't push their hardware who will?

Anyways, great news for those trying to use this primarily as a handheld.

I'm curious about that too. I thought I read somewhere that people were saying like the switch cartridges can read at like 400 mb/s or something. My micro sd card can only read at 95mb/s

Does that mean if I download game onto my sd card that the game will be slower than physical?

That seems to be the general consensus. Not that the update fixed anything (I did hear some say that) but that the great plateau is where most of the hickups were.



That's a shame. For a game like this, I'd much rather play it docked. I'm also not big on portable gaming anymore so I'm biased but I still think many people are looking to play BotW on the big screen so hopefully they fix it soon

The framerate drops are almost the same in the Wii U version. It seems like a memory issue that they might or might not be able to fix. Hopefully they fix it. I prefer to play in handheld mode anyway.

Just tells you how good of a game it is, don't it.

With framerate issues, it still is being heralded by many as the greatest Zelda game ever, many greatest Nintendo game ever and even some saying greatest game ever.

Yeah, but a lot of other games lost points for a better framerate than 20 fps. Scoring 100, so saying the game is more or less perfect, when it drops to 20 fps is a bit strange.

Gamekult rated the Switch version 90 but the Wii U version 80 only because of the more important technical issues. Other reviewers just didn't care at all...



Annoyingly even if you have a 720p or 480p tv it still renders at 900p and downscales to the output resolution so you can't sneakily bypass the issue by setting a lower resolution.



Ocarina of Time is generally ranked as the best game ever made and it ran most of the time at the mid 20s. A few dips won't impact the experience at all, anyone thinking about skipping a great game just because of minor dips is just being ridiculous.

Anyway, the comparisons between docked and portable mode are great. It's pretty interesting to see the changes they did to make it run in the handheld mode. Easily the best looking mobile (handhelds + phones) game ever. It packs quite a punch for a portable device.
