Ok so name 3 sports games right? I mean 3 sports? Aside from that im sorry to tell you but if zelda is niche but sonic isnt then i dont know what to tell you. MK and SF as well arent close to mainstream as zelda

So predictable that'd you'd pick apart what ever I came up with lol. You said name 6 franchises that people know more than Zelda, and I did. 

And you've got to be kidding me about MK and SF. Anyone alive and lucid in the early 90's will know MK and SF. All age groups for one reason or another. Young children who's parents wouldnt let them play. Teens and young adults who played the game, and parents/grandparents that didnt want their kids playing them. Not to mention all the press and media coverage the games got for being too violent etc. Also keep in mind these games werent just popular on home consoles but were crazy popular in arcades (this was a thing back in 90s) and were in probably every liquor store, grocery store, etc;

At the end of the day, as a Zelda fan I'm happy it's niche in comparison to mainstream franchises. Starts a lot of conversations with people who ask what my hylian crest shirt or wallet is/means etc;
