But the optional almost makes them more baffling. They basically acknowledge they're garbage and keep them anyway xD
Awesome that the connectivity appears to be fixed. It probably was just dock interference and the signal needed a boost.
It's not even out yet and there's already a 2.0.0 update?
"ability to connect to the internet via Wifi hotspots that require authentification"
Sounds like some very basic functionality was missing from the first version...

Those numerical codes don't have to be visible to users even if changing usernames is possible.

If you played games with a person before you can add them easily. Friend codes seem to be just one of the ways to add people.
If friend codes are optional and just one of the several ways to add people (seems like that from what we've seen), then I guess it's not that bad but why the fuck even consider bringing them back? And who would want to WILLINGLY use friend codes?
Not even the Wii U had friend codes.

My guess is that Friend codes are a stop gap solution because they had to throw out all the background code they had for the Wii U for the new network that will not be finished until this fall. So some things in the back ground may not be done yet.

Didn't we always? I thought physical games came with a little slip of paper that you went online to enter the code and got credit for buying the game.
At least that was how it was back in the day when I purchased physical games.
Not friend codes, friend code. It's like the 3DS one universal friend code, and it's one of multiple ways to add a friend. Also, the rumor is that once they kick in their online, you'll be able to add friends like normal.
