Not sure what he is doing. But if you slot the joycon into the rail, there is a notch that locks it physically.
Only way it would fly away like that was if it didn't reach that notch or if it is broken.

You have to press and hold a release button whenever you want to detach the joycons.

Not if the joy-con "notch" is already worn down enough for it to not matter.

Either hes a doofus that didnt push it all the way down, or the "notch" is already worn down enough to not do its job.

You can see he 's able to push it off without holding down that "release" button.

Yeah... Video version (we even hear the "click" when he put the Joy Cons on the tablet):

https://vid.me/wnOB

He talks about being "tender" with the console, but being able to take the Joy Cons off without holding the button. He also push the tablet off while holding the Joy Cons, just by pushing the tablet down with his thumbs.

It's pretty weird and something to watch for in the next few weeks.

This is a HUGE f***ing issue!

>_> people will be dropping their consoles and destroying them because of it.

How did Nintendo let this through QA and release in this state? If within weeks the "notch" doesnt work as intended anymore thats.... insane.

If this and the disconnect problem turn out to be real issues, it will just show once again that the March release was rushed and that the console wasn't ready (which could mean less QA time).

Because there is no reason for the disconnect issue to be unnoticed during QA either...

Also the line-of sight desync isnt just when something blocks your view.

OK, so it does seem like he slots it in correctly. Hopefully the notch is metal and not plastic, because people like them will surely wear it down by pushing the joycons off. He does need to exert some force into the tablet for it to slide, so I cant see this sliding off while holding it.

Jejeje, just thought of better design locations. Have the joycons slide from the bottom and the usb-c contact at the top. In handheld mode the tablet is physically impossible slide off while playing  and to dock it it is done upside down. Plus when the console is in tabetop mode, you can charge the console. Switch V2.0 here!

^ this.

It would be better if the console slid off of the joy-cons upwards, instead of releaseing and going downwards.
It would remove the risk of one day the tablet part, just drops out of the joycons your holding because of a worn down Notch.

interesting

on one hand they are showing Zelda coverage pre embargo. So this video is probably going down soon.

On another it clearly shows nothing is blocking the controller.

Also I believe I read somewhere that said at 15+ feet people could replicate the error simply based on distance. If you got to 10+ feet there was less problems.

On neogaf a user was saying it started happending occasionally at 6feet or more.

But I saw another do a test where they counted steps and that time it was like 15 steps before the joycons had issues.

They talked about the joy-con-sole connection with the hardware producer Yoshiaki Koizumi.

Thank god they didn't go with magnets
