Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo hopes that 3DS users will shift over to Switch at some point in the future

I don't really see the Switch as a new handheld...but I think many fans will treat it as one. So it may very well be a 3DS replacement.

That being said, I think the Switch has tons of potential, and is a relatively genius model. Only time will tell if it's successful though.

This confirm that here will be a smaller Switch with a longer battery life to replace the 3DS.

He said that they expect the "kids"with 3DS to move to the Switch.

Keep hoping...

Though here is my question: They said fire emblem would return to home console on the switch in the FE direct. So... what is it? I see a statement and i see i wish. The statement wins.

There is only one thing Nintendo needs to do shift 3DS users over to the Switch, and that's Pokémon.

Animal Crossing is another big one, some people dont realize this but Animal Crossing is the best selling game in Japan this generation, even bigger than Pokemon & Monster Hunter.

Well since Switch is both a handheld & console than it is returning to consoles while remaining on handhelds...........not too hard of a concept to understand. At this point you just need to stop arguing over semantics.

3DS sales anemic perfomance when it was priced at 250$ is the proof.

You and others use this argument too much without taking into account the rest of the problems 3DS had.

For one, how good was the software lineup for 3DS when it was $250? Terrible, Nintendogs at launch & Ocarina of Time 3 months later were the only noteworthy titles in the first 6 months.

On the other hand, Switch will have Zelda, Mario Kart, ARMS & Splatoon spread out in roughly the same time frame. 3rd party support also appears to be better than 3DS in its first 6 months as well.

Secondly, 3DS had really poor marketing initially to the point where many people thought it was just a DS revision with 3D and the advertising was really bad as well.

On the other hand, Switch marketing/advertising seems to be pretty on point. There doesnt appear to be any confusion on what the device is and the advertisements do a good job of making the device appear appealing.

Thirdly, the concept of a 3D screen was never seen as anything more than a gimmick, it was a neat little feature but really brought nothing to the table.

On the other hand, the concept of a device that seamlessly acts as both a handheld and console with a unified software ecosystem is far more compelling and actually increases the functionality.

So yes, 3DS was overpriced at $250 largely because it was a poorly marketed device with a lame gimmick and poor software output. Those three things do not appear to be in place for Switch so it has a far greater chance of success at $300 than 3DS did at $250.

From all the things that I wrote ( hybrid switch lite/mini and handheld device only 2ds-like, taking the same games ). you commented just on that...?

Anyway...

Do you think that those 3DS owners who don't care for home console gaming, will pay 299$ for (og) switch?  I use the argument of 3DS anemic sales perfomance in the 5 months that it was costing 250$ for that case...

Many people who want a nintendo product are price sensitive.

Browse the internet and you will see how many people were wanting a wii u despite its relatively small game library, but skipped it because of being overpriced/expensive owing to tablet controller.

For instance, wii u is my first Nintendo home console that I don't own,  since I can't afford it  or  wii u state makes me reluctant to spend so much to acquire it. Sadly,  Nintendo didn't do the coveted price reduction. Of course, I will have to purchase a used one in the end, albeit I'm not liking to buy used products.

Price is more significant than games...

Price drops increasing effect has been always bigger than what a a major game release provides!

As I said price is perfect notably for those who will use switch as portable and stationary console too, and good for those that they will be using it as a home  console only, as just a handheld console though?

When you're used to spend 150-199$ all these  years for a Nintendo handheld console, you won't be eager to spend 299$  if you don't give a f@ck for home console gaming, even if the game library is luring.

A non-Nintendo paradigm for that: xbox one in spite of its huge third party support was selling like wii u at 499$. MS had to drop kinect for the price to fall at 399$.

By they way, switch games cost 30-40$ more than 3DS games...

Why would you switch over to an inferior library? The 3DS library is heads and tails better than most of the primary console library. Seeing the way the consoles sell and the handhelds, I dont see the complete translation.
