Forums - Gaming - Is the PS4 the best of both worlds now? (PC & Consoles)

I think the more you compare PS4 to PCs the more it suffers. It's basically a midrange gaming PC with fewer exclusives, fewer customization options, an online paywall, and less meaningful backward compatibility. And it doesn't do all the hundreds of other things a PC does.

PS4 is easy to plug and play and it's got some great exclusives, and that's why I like it, but it's definitely not the best of both worlds. It's basically a compromise between both worlds.

I mean not really... it doesn't have a mouse and keyboard, free online, upgradability, as well as the many features of a desktop operating system such as those of Windows 10.

Who says it has to have every features espacially mouse and keyboards is contrast to the controller. Upgradability is the PS4 Pro now. Whats so great about Windows 10? Last time i checked most PC gamers hate it.

Kinda hard to say.......

But what of if I want 4k BR movie playback? Doesn't that make the XB1 the best console? Last I checked, its the only device at its price point with its capabilities that can do that.

Just imagine All the awesome blockbuster movies coming this year in full 4k disc playback not that horrible streaming compression. Or maxing out your data caps downloading HD movies.

I am pretty sure 4K BluRay will be playable via an Update at this point

About 4K Blu-ray, why?

I'm pretty sure it won't be as it would be going already if possible.

Let's have some facts and reasoned opinion eh.

I didn't say it has to be 100% PC... I said it doesn't have what best of PC has to offer...

it has some of the best features PC has to offer

And? Having a couple of PC features, one of which isn't even implemented that well yet wouldn't make me call it "the best of both worlds"

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

To bolded text above: More than half of which were shot in 2K and are just 4K re-masters. Yes it looks better than 1080p but not nearly as good as a film from a 4K+ source.

But it hasn't the best of PC. It has more of what PC offers as PS3 or 360 had but PS4 PRO and Scorpio will still lack a lot of what PC players love (if it comes to specific games, a lot of different options for graphic settings, mods or whatever)

Well you get options with many games like Nioh and you get better performance if you wan it with the PS4 Pro. It just does it in a console-way by automaticlay choosing the settings for the player, isnt that the best of both worlds, like Ease of Use too?

No, it's like telling a Toyota tuner that he could have bought a Porsche to get the same power.

You don't seem to be a PC gamer or not a big one so that you just don't seem to understand that "console does it for you" is not what the PC gamer wants with all the options he has.

And btw the most important difference is still the games. Consoles get many indie games nowadays but PC still has thousands of games no console has. Especially some big ones like League of Legends.

The mouse and keyboard is a standard control input for PC gamers, that controllers can't compete with in certain games. For a best of both worlds you really can't just leave it out. And when I said 'upgradability' I don't mean buy a whole new machine that can get completly out dated, I mean being able to upgrade your existing hardware with specific new parts making it last you as long as you want it to. And as for the features of a desktop operating system such as Windows 10 (which I personally haven't any problems with) I meant general computer capabilities such as web browsing, word processing, video/photo editing etc. that are possible along side with the gaming aspect of a PC.

As it stands at the moment PC is the best of most worlds, You get your PC exclusives along with massive third party support, Microsoft first party that was previously Xbox console only and an fast increasing amount of Japanese third party support that was always a console only thing.

I've always bought Xbox for their great first party games and own Sony consoles for their great Japanese third party offerings so these combined with the PC only games (especially RTS and 4x which I love) has made the platform way more appealing again compared to a few years ago.

Double post.

I think PC is better for internet browsing. Everything else PS4 does better. I used to be a PC gamer too but as I grew up I just couldn't deal with it anymore.

Imo the PS4 is the worst of both worlds. You now have to deal with mandatory installations and frequent patches, you have paid online services and only one digital store to buy your games from. Also no BC whatsoever and virtually no mod support at all. All packed together with high game prices, Resident Evil 7 costs double on PS4 right now.

That boost mode also is really no replacement for the vast options on PC. On PC you can squeeze out 60 fps even on very low-end machines. You just go for 720p, or hell, even lower than that. On PS4 Pro you'll be playing sub 60 fps most of the time, even with boost mode.

Sure the console is cheap, but that's about it when it comes to advantages in hardware and OS. Games are subjective.
