It is 7th gen!
Because its not that powerful from the Wii U. And Wii U was 7th gen (Judging from its power)

But if you count it as a handheld...... It is what ever th gen the handheld's next gen after 3DS and Vita is.

Your talking about "all" consoles on market at the moment, and looking at a generation as a group of consoles.

In which cause your wrong, its a 8th gen console.

The competition determines what gen a console belongs to, you look at gens as a whole of a group of consoles, not as a single.

I don't even know anymore with console generations, I'm pretty sure they no longer exist at this point.

Then tell that to the industry.  This has been their definition for over 3 decades.   And it doesn't start with the NES, that's gen 3. 

If you don't like how the industry has categorized consoles and generations for the past 30-something years, complain to them, get the industry to develop a new system and then you can call me wrong.

What industry? Whose definition? What are you talking about? Which industry decided the Atari 2600 and the Atari 5200, are a part of the same "generation"? Which industry decided that the Gameboy was a part of the same generation as the NES, or was it the same one as the SNES, or was it the same one as the N64? Who knows. Which industry decided that handhelds we a part of the same generations as home consoles?

Whoever wrote it down coined what belonged to what, and their criteria was abritrary and inconsistent. The industry as a whole has not agreed on any standard because they don't give a shit. They just make games and consoles, and don't really care. It's gamers that have set up these "generations" and it's gamers who argue about them. Everyone is both right and wrong at the same time.

You think the Switch is part of the 8th generation? Correct.
You think the Switch is part of the 9th generation? Also Correct?
You think the Switch is part of neither generation? Again, correct.

Prove me wrong.
