True. I just think we can stop calling motion controls a gimmick.

I was referring more to web browsing, video streaming, etc. I would guess it's for the same reason though. Wii U and to a lesser extent 3DS had a bloated and slow OS. Switch is reserving much less RAM for its OS than PS4 & XBO do. That's what extra apps that can run in the background would draw from, right? Anyway I'm pretty sure if a game developer wants to incorporate voice chat in their game they can do so. Party chat is for talking to friends and has no direct connection to the game you're playing... so yes, I would call party chat a non-essential function for a game console. "Gimmick", if you like, although I do not. |
Whyd the customer have to suffer when it's nintendo who's not capable of coding a decent app? Not every player is as masochist as some ppl here
And web browser is pretty damn essential. How are you gon connect to public wifi without web browser? Yknw many public wifi requires you to login thru web browser right? It's even more ironic when nintendo keeps advertising it as a play-wherever-you-want device (hint: splatoon2)
You mean you want the console business to be like the phone division.
Having had zero innovation since basically the iphone came out. I mean who even gets excited now for new phones. It's all the same damn thing, just another $600 I need to spend on because my current phone is getting slow.
So no, I'll take innovation over the standard upgrade every year. Will all innovations work? No, but at least they are trying and not just upping specs like phones.

He's right. I think it's safe to say that historically, Nintendo has brought more to the table than any other company, but the dualshock design is the most important controller concept ever. Have you ever tried to play Shenmue? Like poison it is.

Its like saying fuck the person who invented the wheel. Its the person who made the second wheel thats the hero...

Public wifi? Yeah, do your fellow gamers a favor and don't try to play Monster Hunter over Taco Bell wifi. Jesus, online multiplayer games like Splatoon and Mario Kart require solid connections. There is a reason whenever they advertise playing anywhere they either showcase single-player games or local multiplayer.
"Suffer" is a pretty strong word for not having an app that you pay $50-60 yearly for on other consoles that can easily be replaced by using your phone. Christ. A clunky work-around for a non-essential feature is not a personal insult to players.
The question at hand is what makes something a video game console versus what is a gimmick. Motion controls contribute unique gameplay possibilities. Party chat is something you can do with your phone at any time that would siphon resources away from the games.
I've made my own judgement here, you're entitled to yours.

I just mentioned the wheel in a previous post. lol. I would disagree. Things were progessing, but the edges were really taken off, and rounded, with the dualshock. The N64 controlller was a great leap, maybe the greatest ever, but the LAST truly great leap in standard controller design was analog stick x2. On top of an already great design, which was essentially, an expanded SNES controller. . Sony really got things rolling smoothly in the end. The Wheel.

Again the problem is on nintendo netcode. I could play overwatch just fine in most public wifi, but not most of nintendo games. Also there are many other instances where you need a browser. If you're living in campus, hotel, or if you have to stay overnight on an airport. It baffles me when people think everyone else is having the same lifestyle as them.
You dont like sub fee, but you also ignore nswitch sub fee and the extra cost you dished out for your phone. Oxymoron much? And are you seriously gon use resource as an argument for the lack of voice chat?
And lets talk abt this mobile phone chtatfunctionality. How are you gon hear the voice chat when you're playing in console mode with loud noises coming fron your awesome sound sytem? How are you gon use the chat in public places while also keeping your hands on switch and listening to the game sound?
You knw what if we're gon keep using mobile phone as an excuse, i think nintendo should just dump that switch screen. Every mobile phone has a beautiful screen so switch defly doesnt need that. Or perhaps switch should also dump that controller cos you can use mobile phone touch screen as a controller nowadays.
I GET IT NOW. Switch must be the precursor step before nintendo go full mobile.
If they want me to buy one they should definitely do it but I don't think they care about me anymore because I have disliked every console since the Gamecube, except for the handhelds, which are nice
