Graphics technology has advanced, yes. And (some) games are certainly pretty and shiny.

But for my money, on a "Best Games of All Time" list, the vast majority of those would be games from the 80s and 90s, whether that be PC, Arcade, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, etc.

Pretty much a new release every 5 years since 1991, impressive run.

Uncharted 4 reminded me of old quotes that one day video game visuals will be like the one we see in TV.

Just waiting for Elex to save gaming and put an end to the graphics arms race.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I started on PC at the end of 1997 with software rendering. Then in summer of 1998 my dad bough 3dfx Voodoo 2 and my mind was blown, especially by Unreal.

But our PC got too weak for modern games soon after that. In early 2004 I bought my first PC and started catching up, graphically highlights were Max Payne 1 and especially 2.

The next jump happened in 2009 when I built a new PC with a widescreen monitor. The highlight was Batman Arkham Asylum, that was the last game that blew my mind graphically.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Not really, at least not anymore. When you use Star Fox as an example, it becomes instantly clear to me. No Star Fox game after that had a soundtrack as good.

There was a time when increased processing power led to new types of games. That started to level off in the sixth generation and the next leap was not the PS3 or 360, but the Wii with its motion controls and IR pointer.

Agreed on both counts.

I'm amazed that the entirety of Super Mario 64 has a smaller file size then the texture on Batman's Ass.
