The Joy-Cons are removable and a Nintendo patent shows different button and D-pad configurations. They are probably coming.

I of course know the joycons are removable. It's the second part that's fascinating. Joycons with any button configuration your heart desires

The sad part of seeing this is that Nintendo won't make this exact same designs, because I really loved the Donkey/Didi one and the Samus one.

But there are many more designs Nintendo could make like, Pit/Dark Pit, Luigi/Boo, Pikachu/Charizard and Mr Game & Watch/Duck Hunt Dog. Just imagine what those would look like.
