It depends if it's Nintendo's new console as well.
I think we can consider it as the question: how many switch will be sold by ps5 launch or nextbox?
Well, i believe PS5 will take long to come, and scorpio is not next gen.
Id bet in 5 years more. switch would have at least 4 holidays advantage.

I can't see Sony, Microsoft or anyone else making a handheld to compete so it gets 100% of the market share.

I'll entertain the idea its a 9th gen console, but its not really aiming for the same audience. At best it could take much Sony's Japanese audience.

But combined the HD twins crushed and became the most relevant platforms of the gen and stayed relevant after Wii fizzled out.
The biggest problem with Wii U is Nintendo wanted Xbox/Playstation audience, instead Nintendo should have stuck with their audience.

PS4Pro will play PS4 titles and will have pretty much no games which won't run on PS4. The same as happened with DSi vs. DS and New 3DS vs. 3DS. So it is safe to assume it is the same gen. Switch isn't WiiU or 3DS compatible. I don't know yet abpout Scorpio.

If you start 9th gen with the Switch, it actually behaves like the gens before. You decided to put it at a preojected release of PS5, XBox Next and it looks different to the previous gens.
I have to add that the idea of only selling as many consoles as possible has clouded gamers judgement. Sure Wii u sold too little but it was still overall profitable for Nintendo. Sure the profit was less but still. Think of it this way. Nintendo can literally keep selling consoles as much as Wii u for generations to come and if they keep making profits then they will still be going strong

So the switch is in line with how previous gens behaved. How is this a problem? This graph just helps switch's standing as a 9th gen console

The Switch is as much a 9th gen console as the atari 5200 was a 3rd gen console. Or as much a 9th gen console as the SG-1000 and SG-1000 Mark II were 3rd gen console, and Sega Mark III a (Sega Master System) a 4th gen console.
