I never buy used games for more than a certain price. I ain't scared to walk out of the store if a price doesn't suit my liking.

That's them playing with the porduct pricing to maximize their profit. Nothing wrong with that.

another quote from the article:

"We also tell customers we don’t have copies of new games in stock when they are on sale—for example, Watch Dogs 2 is currently $29.99 new and $54.99 pre-owned. We just tell them we don’t have the new one in stock and shuffle them out the door.”"

That's actually illegal. Can't advertise something you don't intend to sell.

I didn't get that sentence.

I personally don't buy used copies because generally they are in such terrible condition.

If they took a stance and were more harsher on what they buy back then would not have a problem getting a used gamed. But when the cover i missing, damaged or the game disc is scratched no i will not buy.

It's been a long time since I gave GS any thought, save for that Ness Amiibo (which was its own disaster). With Amazon Prime savings it's shocking anyone bothers with them anymore. I'll keep stubbornly buying games physically until the industry decides they won't let me anymore (nearly always new) and even for used games there are better places to go. We live in a world of so many options, and the fact that an enormous portion of game sales STILL comes from a business that behaves like it's run by the goddamn mob is unbelievable.

I honestly wish I had wised up sooner about GS when I was younger, gave them far more business than they ever deserved, and I feel like 99% of their customer base are uninformed kids who drag their equally uninformed parents in to buy them the latest GTA, just like I used to be -.-

I bought Resident Evil 7 at launch last week from Gamestop.

Guy asked me when I was at the counter if I would like to sign up for their Rewards program. I said "Nah maybe another time".

"I'll set you up with our basic one then" was his response.

Doesn't hurt.

I've won stuff from Nintend for Preordering Nintendo stuff in the store.

I know, I just thought it was funny how he bothered to ask when even if I said no he was just going to do it anyway. I'm guessing by policy for working there it's in his job to have to ask people and he's probably told to try to push memberships on people or something i'm guessing.

It just made me think of something like "Wanna sign up for this?" "No thanks maybe ne-" "Great! I'll get you started".

I used to have a Pro Membership Gamestop thing years ago as well where you could redeem stuff with points and get the magazines and such, but like I said that was years ago.

Gamestop does seem to have some shitty policies though. Just like how they try to sell already opened copies of  games as 'new' even though they're not new at that point. That happened when I bought Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on PS4.

Shady as fuck. Glad I dont shop there anymore.

My favorite thing the clerks do is when you bring them a new copy they try to sneak you a used copy.

Must make you feel like a sleazeball to work there.

One of the reasons I'm glad they left Puerto Rico. I really, really hated how they gave you an already opened "showcased" game as a new game. I kinda knew about their shady activities, but I did not know about this in particular. Since my options to buy new games are reduced, I now tend to buy new games off Best Buy or Amazon.

I remember when I went to Gamestop I brought an actual case of the game Thief for the PS4 to the counter and then they tried to give me a generic case, but I complained and eventually they relented. They kind of did the same same thing to my brother, replacing the display copy with a water-damaged one.

I buy my games at Best Buy and Amazon. (For Xbox almost all of them are Digital from the Xbox Store)

As a former employee way back when, this does not surprise me. Haven't given them any business in years.

I buy my games straight from the Xbox or Playstation store.
