Forums - Nintendo - New Switch trailer - Play anytime, anywhere, with anyone

The trailer does look silly at times, but they really drive the message home here, and it's one of the cool things about the system.

Not even close, that title will forever be for WiI Music.

At least Wii music, however bland and clunky its execution, had a decent core concept. But this, using a controller to pretend to milk a cow or eat a sandwich? This is so unbelievably bad I almost can't believe it's a first party production.

It's a way to showcase the potential use of the Joy-Cons. With all that tech inside those two small Joy-Cons, why not create a game that utilizes these features. I think 1-2 Switch plays it safe for Nintendo in terms of not having to put one of their established franchises out there to be the guinea pig of showcasing these features. These features add on to the potential ways of playing games on the Switch. It's like Wii Sports and Nintendogs showcasing motion control and touch screening, respectively. Plus the producer appears to have worked on things akin to this type of game, being involved in Zelda Four Swords saga, Brain Age, Rusty's Real Deal Baseball, StreetPass Mii Plaza, and Miitopia. Sure it's not gonna set the world on fire, but I'm not gonna go that far to where you assume it'll go. I haven't really heard those who actually tried this game and started bashing it. Is it $50? Probably not. Does it have value? It'll ultimately depend on how people perceive it. They were pretty adamant that this is a game that showcases the features of the Joy-Cons for parties and gatherings as an ice breaker or something not to take too seriously.

Showcasing the Joy-cons doesn't justify the game that does so being cringeworthy shovelware that makes Wii Music look like Ocarina of Time.

Another good ad! Way to go, Nintendo!

They are finally going after their target demographic. The funny thing is... children are now more likely to be interested in the system as well, as they see high-schoolers and young adults ("cool" people) playing with the thing.

Well again it's perception. I haven't really heard hands on impressions indicating to what you're saying. Of course, things could change for both sides. If it's not for you, that's fine. It'll apparently be something for others as Comg might indicate.

Pushing a game like this actively harms Switch's image, because people might start to see the system itself as gimmicky and lame by association. Thankfully it isn't bundled, so hopefully it flops.

I mean you keep saying that but I have seen some people legitimately interested in the game, including people who aren't big Nintendo fans.  And so long as Nintendo keeps it framed as a scew-around-with-friends side show rather than the main event, no one will care.  If this were their Superbowl showpiece or big pack in seller, I would be more upset but it isn't.

Jeez such a downer on a harmless game haha. It'll probably do decent in Japan as it's a game for parties and they don't mind the quirkiness of these things. Plus the Japanese appear to commute a lot so it'll be something to do while being in a karaoke bar or something when meeting people or hanging out with friends who want to do something that isn't taken seriously.

My concern is for Switch itself. It is critical that it succeeds, and advertising one of its key games a title that recalls the very worst of the Wii/Kinect era isn't helpful. A lot of people will be turned off the system if they see this and think Switch is going to be gimmick focussed.
