$39m revenue

So less revenue than 1m sales of any console game.

Yeah, Nintendo should definitely go mobile.

Well this game couldnt have been very expensive to make. Seem like it just uses assets from NSMBU.

Chump change comapred to the $1Bn a 20m seller can bring in though.

Before listening to Nintendo I thought they were 'going mobile' to defend Pokemon and SMB from smartphone ripoffs that could grow to overtake them. After listening to them and seeing the sales for Pokemon, it's obvious now how good of a marketing trick it is. Probably much cheaper too. Weren't the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat movies done for the same reason? Movie budget roughly equal to marketing budget.

40m of revenue with epic Ip publicity and still needs to be released on android but the media keeps talking about how much of a failure it was.

How much did the game cost to make and market? How much of that 40 million does Nintendo get?

40 million of revenue doesn't mean the game was profitable to make, and even if it did make a profit, it might not have made a profit significant enough for it to be labelled a success.

Im guessing nintendo spent little to nothing on marketing.

However Apple probably took half of that 40m revenue they made off it.

So 20m for Nintendo, and then production costs + marketing.

Its still a pretty good profit, for something that likely didnt take much work to make.

Are people still oblvious as to what companies spend on marketing? There was a national super mario run tv ad campaign. That alone easily cost tens of millions of dollars.

That's a big 5%.

So you think a few million more in your pocket from minimal investment is bad?

Terrible news for one of the Biggest Gaming IPs out there, and Nintendo admitted it was a failure, I guess that confirms their next Nintendo Mobile game will be IAP supported

They could have made more money by making it free and boosting sales of Mario games even more. Maybe they'll do that before the next SMB game releases.

As part of the marketing budget, it's fine. As an alternative to dedicated hw/sw, it's a joke. In terms of revenue for a Mario game, it'll struggle to beat Hotel Mario.

I do wonder how much an Android boost this would have though.

5% i still a good amount, probably would have been better to separate the prices per 'world'

No,Its doing half of what they expected.

"Nintendo's CEO, Tatsumi Kimishima, isn't impressed, and said he had expected a conversion rate in the double digits by now."
