Forums - Nintendo - Why the Switch has a Huge Pre Existing Issue with Third Parties

3rd party didn't really help the Gamecube though did it

I loved playing beyond good and evil and Resident evil 4 on it and it sure filled a few gaps. For customer satisfaction it did help and it did sell better than the Wii U. But Nintendo hadn't learned of the N64 and still refused to use a normal disc.

I think that's not the point. The point is that 3rd parties are often regarded as the one and only reason for a console's success or failure, when in reality, it's a mix of several reasons, of which all should be regarded when talking about a console's success or failure.

That's fair enough. 3rd party doesn't guarantee success, just like the lack of it doesn't guarantee failure. It certainly gives a console more potential for success though.

You know if Gamecube had Gta3 and Max Payne I may have bought that instead. Also if the first LoZ was TP and not WW. So yeah it had third party but not really the ones I personally buy a console for back in 2000s

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere in the past that Nintendo were looking at ways of increasing 1st party output cos they weren't really counting on 3rd party's anymore...and the logic behind only having to develop for a single console, such as the switch (rather than both a handheld and home console) was the main way they were looking at combatting the issue as they could make more 1st party games for a single console assuming all goes according to plan

Why 3rd parties have a hard time selling on Nintendo consoles? Because Nintendo's own games are such a big competition. People have budgets and need to decide which games they buy. Only the fewest of us have the opportunity to buy anything.

That's pretty logic considering the hardware inside the last two Nintendo home consoles and the Switch. The gap with the PS and Xbox consoles is huge and every third party game will be inferior on a Nintendo console compared to same gen PS and Xbox cinsoles (except non demanding games like rayman legends). So people will buy them on other consoles. Besides the core Nintendo fanbase just wants to play Nintendo exclusives. Even Assassins Creed 4 didn't sell well on the Wii U well it was not a half asset port.
