Forums - Sony - PS5 To Be Backward Compatible (RUMOUR)

So are the console wars going to become like the US presidential election now? Now that 2016 is over, let's look at the list of contenders for 2020...

And yeah, PS5 better have Ryzen if it comes out in two years or so, or the successor to Ryzen. I'll bet that MS releases it's upgraded Scorpio S with an 8k blu-ray player then, as well. I really hope the console realm doesn't become a power bunny hop situation, one upgrade every 3 or 4 years between the two would be fine, though I highly doubt it's going to remain that way.

I can't believe they'll change their architecture again after their experience with the Cell and the well received PS4. I still want to enjoy the PS4 for a couple more years and with the Pro I think it'll be at least 2019 before they put this out. That'll be a 6 year cycle which I like.

I am Iron Man

Hope PS5 doesn't release before 2020, i'm fine with long gens tbh.

That would be awesome. Maybe 50% of the PS4 library wont get a remaster now

Rumours already lol we are 2-3 years off the PS5

Yup, it's far too early for ps5 rumours, any interesting and accurate information just doesn't exist yet, because the ps5 certainly has many different directions it could still go in, Sony will still be making big decisions regarding it.

Not really too early. Early reports and rumors for PS3 started early into ps2's lifetime around 2001-2002.

The video is based on what the Ori dev said it seems.

The plot thickens. The Ori developer who was supposedly a MS puppet making scripted posts for MS is actually making PS5 predictions as well. Double agent working for Sony? Or maybe just an independent developer making observations about the industry.

Why would anybody even want a PS5?

it's too early to be even talking about PS5. we probably won't hear anything legit until 2020 or 2021.

I think its a little too early for this...

Well, this is just speculation, but I believe most of it to be true. PS5 will be B/C with PS4, which will be much easier to do with similar architecture, to help keep gamers with them. I also hope they make it B/C with PS1 and PS2 games, at least through the store, with both upping res and AA. PS3 may still be too much.

I think we're going to be getting a lower end Ryzen CPU, which will still be much more powerful than the one in the PS4/XBO/Scorpio (if its still using Jaguar.) I also expect a low-mid Vega GPU. One I saw the leaked rumors for was 12 Tflops, with 16 GB of HBM2 RAM. I think they may use that one for a base, but lower the performance slightly for heat reasons to about 11 Tflops, with maybe 12 GB of RAM. Either way, it's going to blow the Scorpio out of the water. And I know the standard answer to that from Xbox fans is, "Well, wait til the XB2/Scorpio 2.0 comes out." And my answer to that is, "Well, let's wait and see if MS is still making HW at that point." Cause if Scorpio fails miserably, MS is going to seriously reconsider staying in.

As for the "leak," I highly doubt Sony has anything to do with this, as this is mostly speculation. However, as we get closer to the Scorpio's launch, or maybe slightly after it, you can bet Sony is going to have some controlled leaks. And if MS actually tries to pull the "Scorpio is a next gen system," count on Sony to officially announce the PS5 in 2018 for a mid-late 2019 launch. They'll also cut the PS4 to $149 and Pro to $249 at some point that same year. Not going to be looking good for a $399-$449 Scorpio. And I doubt MS is going to want to lose money just so they have a price war with the Pro.
