Switch Pro Controller:
$70 with 40hr rechargeable battery, Gyro, HD Rumble, NFC support.

DS4 controller (PS4's Dual Shock 4):
$47.99 with 2-3hr rechargeable battery, Gyro

Xbox One Controller :
$60 with no battery at all. No Gyro. Extra Batteries; Constant cost, more expensive.
Rechargeable batteries + charger: $20

Xbox One controller with battery pack: $75
Cost $120 to support two players

The new Xbox one controller is $74.99 already and it lacks HD rumble and gyro/accelerometer/magnetometer, NFC, so you should think again when saying the cost is too much expensive

I must say, suddenly the $70 price tag ain't so bad...

Still, I think I'll be set with the joycons.

What it shows is how much Nintendo fans want a standard controller.

Or you know, local multiplayer.

Expensive or not, the pro controller is as important to me as any game on the Switch.

You get local multi-player straight out of the box with the 2 joycons. For only  $10 over the cost of the pro controller you can get 2 more joycons.

So I'd say it's because lots of people  ( myself included) prefer a more standard pad with a actual d-pad.

Thankyou for this! It seems cheaper now

Honestly don't see the need for the pro controller when the joycon is almost identical. Until i can get one in my hand, I'll decide then.

Not buying a Switch without a Pro Controller, so with this situation on hand no doubt I'm going to wait until late-year to purchase the console.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

So very much of this is wrong

You forgot the Ps4 has

- A speaker

- Headphones jack

- A touchpad (scratching in rayman is quite fun)

Barely any game uses it lol. That can also be said about the gyro sensors, which are also barely used - despite Splatoon showing how good they can be for shooter games.

- A light bar

Pointless and drains the battery much faster.

- and you got some broken ones if yours are lasting 2 hours. Mine easily last 5.

5 hours is still terrible.

- Plus one COMES with the console. In one piece. Not worrying about "comfort grip or charging grip".

You get a comfort grip with the console as well and you don't need a charging grip - just attach it to the tablet and put it in the dock to charge. Besides, you don't even need a comfort grip as you can just use it as a single controller even when they're seperated. It's actually very comfortable that way, just like the Wii controller only better.

Where as the

A) trying to increase the price of a controller by constantly mentioning batteries is a cheap shot

It's not a cheap shot, it's one of the important things to consider when buying wireless controllers.

B) The NFC isn't a benefit. It is just yet another way to scan in amiibos

How is it not a benefit? You can also scan Skylanders without having to buy a portal, unlike the PS4 and X1 versions of Skylanders. So it can actually save you money and space. Besides, some people actually like collecting and scanning their amiibo to get in-game perks.

C) The "Rumble" is coming at launch, yet the only game to feature it so far is 1-2. A $50 mini game that isn't even bundled in.

What does that matter? It's not going to stop getting games after launch. That's like judging the PS4 library right after launch.

So yeah -  you can see why people think it is expensive. That and you know - it is subjective.

Wow, I never expected that, considering the price of the thing. I guess it doesn't bother people all that much then.

The ppl buying the hardware at launch are the hardcore bunch. Price isn't really that much of a bother for them

It could be them as well. I mean, I love Nintendo, but I didn't buy one of these things at that price.

But that's just it,  it's almost identical, but not exactly alike like the Wii U Pro Controller is to the Gamepad for instance (besides the gimmicks I mean). Proper D-pad, off set sticks, larger inputs, and likely more comfortable overall. For most games I do think the Joy-cons will suffice, but I really don't see myself playing Splatoon 2 with them, and would rather use the Pro Controller in every game and situation it can be used with.
