This isn't so much an issue with a "generation", which is hard term to define, but rather one with young people.

Go read articles from the 80s, 70s, 60s, 50s, etc. and know what you find? The bemoaning of how this generation is

1. Lazy
2. Entitled
3. Spoiled
4. Ungrateful
5. Self centered

Think about that, they were saying these exact same things about Gen X and the Baby Boomers. Why? Well, in part, because there are elements of truth to them. Young people spend the first 20-30 years of their lives focusing on themselves and their personal goals. Often as we age and have to depend on others and take care of others we gain perspective.

Trust me, what ever they call the generation following millennials (which would be those born 2001-2020) will have all sort of think pieces written about the decline of morality and how they take all the hard work of prior generations for granted.

Also, in regards to cultural elements have to understand the hyperbole of the present and our awareness of the totality of culture compared to the past.

The fact is the 40s-80s had a lot of garbage art, from music to film and literature. What happens is we only remember the top 5% or so and dismiss the other 95%. There is plenty of good work being produced today, and it is what will endure while the trivial nonsense will fade from collective consciousness.

and MMA fighters have generally gotten their asses kicked in boxing.

From personal experience, i won a national MMA title and qualified for a national kickboxing tournament (couldnt attend due to injury) in 2012 but didnt even place in the top 8 at the regional Golden Gloves that same year. I qualified for nationals in Greco-Roman wrestling my senior year in high school yet couldnt get past the first round of the regional NAGA (submission grappling) tournament the following year.

Culture has changed. Blame social media if you need something to blame.

It's just a matter of perspective, really. In 20-30 years time, people will be saying the same again...

There are tons of music, games, movies, etc. that will be considered great. Only reason they're not yet is because they still "fresh".

Africa is the same shit. China only gets better. West isn't in it's prime but it's no worser than the days of sodom. The answer is no.

All I can tell you is that every generation believes the one that succeeds it is a waste. The "Boomers" parents called them slackers and told them Elvis's gyrating hips would turn the women into whores. The Boomers children told their children rap music would destroy them and society. And now my generation (Gen Y) call millennials the worst of the worst. Fact of the matter is there are millions of millennials doing great things. For every one of them you see trying to be the next big YouTube star you'll find one who's organizing their community and helping move things forward.

Look, it's easy to generalize the entire generation when all the bad they partake in is posted to the internet. But it's always been that way with all of us. The bad is always brought to the forefront while the good remains in the shadows. Millenials get a bad rap just as gen y did, and gen x before them and so on... I guess age just makes us all crotchety.
