Forums - Gaming - When did DLC started to go so wrong?

I`m just playing Episodes of Liberty City now, and this a very good DLC! It really adds-up to the core game two new storylines and add new content and mechanics to the game! Skyrim Expansions are also just great too.

Now, GTA V never got something like that even with astronomical sales...

The entire idea of DLC in my conception is to provide a influx of new and significant content on games already released, using the core game as a base to expand in new directions. But DLC went so wrong we now get to pay extra for the real ending ( The Last Of Us I`m looking at you), it looks like developers instead of keep and extended development cycle they just finish the game and some executive board come and says " Hey, take those part ot the full game out and sell it as DLC. Since we are already there just burn those battle maps into the discs but charge for unlocking it, nobody will think it`s awkward a huge map fits in only some KB"

DLC went pretty south this gen and the ending of last one, any chance of this changing? If developers keep doing this kind of thing i`ll have to say piracy and jailbreaking is beatiful and moral.

There is nothing wrong with DLc except for few exceptions. The way i see it most games you pay $60 for the full game. Then you can pay for more.

Horse Armor Elder Scrolls Oblivion.

DLC used to be called expansion packs. Mario Kart 8 DLC is an expansion. Most of what we see today is BAD DLC practices even tho the very idea od DLC is actually great.

To me, it was when they started announcing DLC before or around the release of the game in question, announcing season passes around the same time, and having dlc as pre-order bonuses.

This, exactly. Basically the moment DLC became an industry standard feature. I am still glad it exists, though.

??? Left Behind happens mid-game and before the game. It's not close to the ending at all, so what do you mean by that you're looking at TLoU?

Most DLC is garbage, and always has been, yet it has gotten worse upon being mired in microtransactions. Think of it as fiscal darwinism for the video game crowd.

This guy beat me to it. Horse Armor.

DLC has mostly improved, in my opinion. Different studios have tried different things to see what worked best. Some bad, some good, but now I'm pretty much pleased with it.

I buy DLC that appeals to me, I don't buy DLC that doesn't appeal to me. I have no probably with cosmetic DLC, I just don't care to buy it.

When they started charging us 80% of the cost for the base game for a 1/3 or less of the content.
