The fee is the reason why the game is getting this amazing support to begin with :P

The Fee is a good thing, as it helps keep out pay2win, it keeps the servers working, and every couple months new content is added for free, and those added content can be considered an expansion compared to other free to play or buy to play mmos.

The fee sucks big time because, again, games like Guild Wars 1 and 2 only asked for an entry price of purchasing the game and got amazing support without the need for any fees at all. Kept out pay2win (GW2 less than GW1, though), has stable servers working and some months you get new and free content added.

some months you get free content added in GW? FFXIV gets content added every 2-3 months. guaranteed.

edit: I wish FFXIV was free also, but this is what I do..; I end my subscription and take a break after I've burned out myself from doing new contents, then I come back when new ones is added.

A large pizza would cost more than how much it would cost to play FFXIV for a month lol.

The game could cost fifty cents per month for all I care. Making me having a character (and a game itself) tied to a paid account instantly kills any desire I would have to play it. Gaming as a hobby is expensive enough already, no need to have Square-Enix shoving me their apparently cheap fees because they're greedy.

Which doesn't make it any more worth of a fee than how GW does it, since GW does the same, for "free", just more spaced out.

Looks great.
Would love to play it, if it wasn't paid, paying for the game, then keep paying to be able to play it, and paying plus to be able to play on PS4... yeah, no.

My sentiment exactly. All MMORPGs should follow the Guild Wars model. Pay for the game once, then never have to pay again (aside expansions), and enjoy it all you want.

That being said, I think this game doesn't require you to have PS+ to play it, as long as you pay the game's fee.

true. Every MMO should follow gw2 b2p model. It's amazing that anet could release so much contents with this paymodel. What's more even amazing is that gw2 actually never has downtime for patch.

But if we're talking abt quality content, FF14 is a definite winner here.

w-w-wha-what? More content on a constant basis is always a good thing; And you're getting quality ones I might add. one update from FFXIV is like an expansion for GW. You don't know the scope of FFXIV updates, and they add up, and ontop of that you get expansions that's like a full standalone FF game (stormblood). I think that justifies the fee.

I've been a big GW and then GW2 player for a long time, and I shared the same ideas. But then I tried FF14, and it's just not the same level. You can see that you're paying for something, the updated content alone justifies the fee compared to the really poor  and rare "new content" added to GW2.

It's like saying "Why would I pay for a console video game when I can play F2P games on my smartphone?"...

It doesn't require plus? So Sony gets a share of the fee SE charges?

I agree, paying for it once and if you want the expansions buy it, that's how every other kind of game is, and most of them provide online support just as well, so even if FF XIV is full focused, they shouldn't charge for it.

You're not using PSN though. You use Square's servers to play the game online.

and the whole reason why the game is able to be more enticing is BECAUSE it has a sub fee. To say that Square does it to be greedy is insane, because the content isn't the same. GW2 doesn't compare.

Having to pay for the game and to be able to play it is a non deal to me, and the sole reason I won't be getting it.

Maybe it has been good for SE, but it's not for me.

I dunno, I feel like if you're commmiting to play the game perpetually, it's the best value for the player. The type of steady, constant content releases is only possible with a large dev team, which means that the development costs are constant, rather than project based. It requires a steady stream of income to match that.

Unfortunately, whatever scope from the free updates can't override the sentiments I shared earlier and the comments that BraLoD also makes:

Paying for the game plus $156 a year to keep playing it doesn't sounds like best value to me.
I can buy other 3 games at release with that money, games like The Witcher or Disgaea or the likes that very likely will provide me more content that FF XIV expansions alone.

I pay $120 for a year (you get discounts for longer sub times), but I've also played a minimum of 500 hours each year. That's a very conservative number based on the amount of scheduled raid time I have each week. Sure, you get tons of value out of Witcher and Disgaea, but for someone who keeps coming back the game, I don't think you can really argue against the value it's able to provide.
